Description

Description Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS–related work, Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians. The Intern reports directly to the Manager, Accounting Operations. The Manager, Accounting Operations may delegate this reporting function as deemed necessary. The role begins with assisting the AP/AR Clerks with daily tasks and gradually progresses to more advanced responsibilities, including preparing analytical reports such as AP aging, account reconciliations, estimates, forecasts, and cheque run reports. The intern will also undertake a project aimed at enhancing efficiency within the Accounting Operations Team. This position provides exposure to all aspects of Accounting Operations within the division. The intern will receive guidance on the project’s essentials and access to necessary resources to successfully complete the task. Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 115 Carrie Cates Ct, North Vancouver. What you’ll do: Entering and coding accounts payable invoices into accounting system. Receiving invoices (electronically or physically) and scanning into system. Routing accounts payable invoices for approval. Ensuring invoices are appropriately approved before processing for payment. Receiving, entering and coding accounts receivable receipts. Creating and posting journal entries for accounts payable and receivable. Reconciling vendor and customer accounts. Assisting other accounting clerks for vacation relief or during peak periods. Performing other administrative duties such as bank deposits, mail, filing, etc. Perform additional ad-hoc analysis and other duties as assigned. What you’ll bring Currently enrolled in a 2 or 3 year undergraduate program in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration Completion of introductory accounting classes is preferred. Basic understanding of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable Outstanding analytical skills to capture, analyze and process large amounts of data. Innovative thinking skills, with the resourcefulness to get to the source of truth. Outstanding integrity and honesty in all situations. Strong communication, interpersonal and organization skills. Excellent knowledge of the English language, verbal and written. Experience and strong comfort with Microsoft Excel. Outstanding problem solving and research skills. Minimum 50 WPM typing skills.
