Description
Location: AMC
Headquarters, Boston, MA
Reports to: Director of
Corporate & Foundation Relations
Summary Description: The Corporate
& Foundation Relations Officer (CFRO) is responsible for managing a portfolio
of funders and prospects in order to meet the department’s grant revenue goals.
The CFRO also plays a coordinating role in helping maximize institutional
funders’ potential investment across AMC. Responsibilities include prospect
research, cultivation, solicitation, reporting, and stewardship to maintain and
grow foundation, corporate, and governmental funding for AMC.
This is a full-time, year-round, exempt position with excellent benefits,
based at our 10 City Square headquarters in Boston, MA. Salary is commensurate
with experience.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Manage an assigned portfolio of corporate, foundation and government
prospects. Meet all grant-related deadlines within that portfolio.
- Write and/or edit persuasive and compelling letters of inquiry,
proposals, reports, transmittal letters, cover letters, abstracts, summaries,
forms, and acknowledgment letters to funders. Edit and proof all relevant proposal
and report attachments according to funder format requirements.
- Ensure colleagues within development, finance, and programs are
informed of and help meet all submission deadlines. Coordinate strategies with
program directors and staff and schedule drafting, editing, and production for
submission of high quality inquiry letters, proposals and reports.
- In consultation with Director of Corporate & Foundation Relations, provide
direction and assistance to program directors and finance staff in the creation
and review of AMC and program/project budgets as required for proposals. Where
appropriate, contact foundation program officer regarding special requirements
and/or questions.
- Develop and maintain familiarity with AMC program areas and strategic
direction, in order to be equipped to identify and aggressively pursue funding
opportunities from foundation, corporate, governmental sources that fit
programmatic priorities and are in line with budgetary goals.
- Initiate and maintain strong relationships with institutional
funders’ program officers and trustees. Stay apprised of changes in funder
priorities/interests, answer inquiries, and adjust AMC strategies where
appropriate.
- Plan and implement a range of cultivation, solicitation and
stewardship activities for assigned CFR prospects (i.e., post-award recognition
plans, site visits, meetings with AMC program staff and leadership, special
mailings about reports and/or policy developments) to further develop and
maintain close ties with portfolio foundations. Coordinate agendas, briefings,
scheduling, and logistics in preparation for funder meetings.
- Conduct prospect research to help identify CF funding opportunities
that will provide financial and in-kind resources to support high priority AMC
initiatives. Initiate internal discussions with program directors, finance,
executive staff and board (as appropriate) to identify new funding
opportunities. Coordinates as needed with Development Researcher around
research needed on individuals associated with prospective CF funders.
- Help monitor and evaluate progress toward annual goals; provide
statistical reports as requested. Maintain database records, post-award grants
management system, and other operational systems to support strong grants and
prospect management for the organization.
- Performs other related functions as directed.
Qualifications and Experience: The
successful Corporate & Foundation Relations Officer will be a self-starter
with excellent writing skills who is conscientious, attentive to detail, and
results-oriented. The ideal person will have a passion for AMC’s mission and
will be a positive, collegial team player with a proven ability to motivate,
engage and work collaboratively with staff across the organization to develop
and attract strong funding.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of two years’ nonprofit development experience, with past
grant writing and corporate and foundation relations experience strongly
preferred.
- Ability to absorb and communicate complex programmatic information
cogently and persuasively both in writing and verbally.
- High-level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Comfort in using Excel, Word, and Salesforce/CRM. Facility in using
donor tracking systems.
- Able to manage a variety of projects under deadline pressure.
- Able to work independently and with minimal supervision; a
self-starter.
- Able to work collaboratively and assertively with diverse
constituencies.
- Solid organizational, logistical, and time management skills.
- Working familiarity with corporate & foundation prospect research
tools.
- Strong work ethic, integrity in dealing with confidential donor
information, and reliability.
- Strong interest in outdoor recreation and a willingness to be trained
in outdoor leadership skills.
- Familiarity with and willingness to uphold Association of Fundraising
Professionals’ Code of Ethical Standards and Donor Bill of Rights.
- Valid driver’s license.
Work Conditions/Physical Effort:
- Work performed primarily in an open space office setting with minimal
privacy.
- Day-to-day work requires only minor physical exertion and/or strain.
Requires occasional lifting of several pounds.
- This position, which supports the CFR Office and the AMC Development
Team as a whole, has opportunities to cross country ski, snowshoe or hike on
occasion to assist with donor cultivation and events. Such events may require
overnights at AMC backcountry facilities.
