    "ExternalDescriptionStr": "<p>This is a day shift <span style=\"color: black;\">7:00am-8:00pm rotating weekends and holidays</span></p><p><span><strong>JOB SUMMARY:</strong></span></p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span>Under direct supervision of the RN, assists the surgical team by acting as the primary scrub person who handles instruments, supplies and equipment during surgical procedures.&nbsp;</span></p><p><span><strong>MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES/CRITICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:</strong></span></p><ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\"><li><span>Respects and protects the patient’s rights to confidentiality and privacy and discloses information only for professional purposes which are in the patient’s best interests with full consideration of their legal rights.</span></li><li><span>Provides safe patient care by verifying patient identification and assuring the presence of the necessary instrumentation, supplies, equipment, and implants.&nbsp;</span></li><li><span>Adhere to aseptic practices to protect patients from injury, minimize wound contamination and reduce patient risk for surgical site infection.</span></li><li><span>Applies basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, microbiology and pharmacology for optimal surgical patient care.</span></li><li><span>Maintains knowledge of surgical techniques, instrumentation, equipment and supplies necessary for&nbsp;</span></li><li><span>procedures.</span></li><li><span>Comply with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids, chemical disinfectants and other hazardous substances.</span></li><li><span>Demonstrates the ability to problem solve in relation to the procedure being performed and respond appropriately to emergencies or changes in procedure.</span></li><li><span>Demonstrates attention to detail and anticipates surgeon’s needs when scrubbed on any surgical procedure.&nbsp;</span></li><li><span>Assumes responsibility for accurate sponge, sharp and instrument counts, correct medication labeling on the sterile field and correct handling and labeling of specimens.</span></li><li><span>Active participant in the “TIME OUT” prior to the incision.</span></li><li><span>Maintains knowledge of surgical techniques, instrumentation, equipment and supplies necessary for procedures.</span></li><li><span>Demonstrates knowledge of sterilization and instrument processing.</span></li><li><span>Assists with the development and clinical precepting of students and new employees.&nbsp;</span></li><li><span>Maintains equipment and utilizes supplies in a safe, cost effective manner.</span></li><li><span>Complies with hospital attendance policy and department staffing policy and rotations.</span></li><li><span>Adheres to hospital and department specific dress code policy.</span></li><li><span>Complies with hospital and departmental policies and procedures and adheres to external agency requirements.&nbsp;</span></li><li><span>Completes required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements.&nbsp;</span></li><li><span>Communicates and collaborates effectively with all members of the health care team and related integrity, and compassion.&nbsp; Does not support or take part in disruptive or negative behavior.</span></li><li><span>Formulates and maintains effective working relationships with peer, managers and other surgical team members.</span></li><li><span>Participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies and procedures and standards of care, which contribute to the achievement of the organization’s strategic plan.</span></li><li><span>Cross trains and rotates to other clinical areas in Perioperative Services as needed.</span></li></ul><p>&nbsp;</p><p><span><strong>QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:</strong></span></p><ul style=\"list-style-type: disc; padding-left: 24px;\"><li class=\"ortl-align-justify\"><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span>Must meet one or more of the following requirements in compliance with CT regulations:&nbsp;</span></p><ul style=\"list-style-type: circle; padding-left: 48px;\"><li class=\"ortl-align-justify\"><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span>(1) Successfully completed a nationally accredited surgical technology program and holds and maintains certification as a surgical technologist (certification must be within 6 months of hire date) from a national certifying body that certifies surgical technologists recognized by the Department of Public Health.</span></p></li><li class=\"ortl-align-justify\"><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span>(2) (A) Successfully completed an accredited surgical technologist program, (B) has not, as of the date of hire, obtained certification as a surgical technologist from a national certifying body that certifies surgical technologists recognized by the Department of Public Health, and (C) obtains such certification not later than 18 months after completion of such program or 6 months from date of hire.&nbsp;</span></p></li><li class=\"ortl-align-justify\"><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span>(3) Performed surgical technology services as a surgical technologist in a health care facility on or before October 1, 2023, provided the health care facility employing or retaining such person as a surgical technologist under this subsection obtains proof of such person's prior experience as a surgical technologist from such person and makes it available to the Department of Public Health upon request of the department;&nbsp;</span></p></li><li class=\"ortl-align-justify\"><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span>(4) Successfully completed a training program for surgical technology in the armed forces of the United States, the National Guard or in the United States Public Health Services; or&nbsp;</span></p></li><li><p><span>(5) Has been designated by the health care facility as being competent to perform surgical technology services based on specialized training or specific experience, including, but not limited to, as a phlebotomist, nuclear medical technologist, ultrasound technologist or central service technician, provided the health care facility retains a list of such designations deemed by such facility to be competent to perform such services. Licensed Professional Scope of Practice Exemption (c) Nothing in this section shall prohibit a person from performing surgical technology services if such person is acting within the scope of such person's license, certification, registration, permit or designation, or is a student or intern under the direct supervision of a health care provider.</span></p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p></li></ul></li><li><p><span>BLS certifi</span></p><p><span>cation required</span></p></li><li><p><span>Ability to communicate effectively with patients, their family members, surgical staff, physicians and other health care workers.&nbsp;Able to read, write and speak English.</span></p></li></ul>",
