Activities included are performance of pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical processes in the laboratory to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Ensure that services are of the best quality, are cost contained and are carried out in an expeditious manner. Additional responsibilities includes recognizing results or problems that require referral to the Pathologist, assuring competency of all personnel, formulating the budget for the department, maintaining performance improvement activities within the department and participating in CQI activities and maintaining efficient and effective departmental operations in compliance with all state, federal, and local regulatory laws, standards and protocols.</p>\n<h2>Essential Job Functions</h2>\n<ul>\n <li>Work with hospital administration and clinical consultant(s) on planning, organizing and directing laboratory operations and ensuring compliance with all local, state and federal regulations.</li>\n <li>Make rounds in Laboratory to judge effectiveness of operation, utilization of personnel and supplies, and general ethical and professional atmosphere.</li>\n <li>Secure and maintain the physical facilities, equipment and supplies which are required to carry out effective patient care and create an optimum physical environment.</li>\n <li>Initiate and actuate improved methods of services and direct their implementation.</li>\n <li>Responsible for the development of a budget and fiscal operation of the assigned laboratories.</li>\n <li>Communicate appropriately and clearly to physicians, staff and administration.</li>\n <li>Interact professionally with patient/family.</li>\n <li>Consult other departments, as appropriate, to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities.</li>\n <li>Establish and maintain standards of performance and ensures competency and appropriate licensure of personnel.</li>\n <li>Coordinate the department’s in-service training.</li>\n <li>Communicate administrative directive to appropriate personnel</li>\n <li>Promote effective intradepartmental relationships.</li>\n <li>Develop, initiate, interpret and enforce Laboratory Services procedures and maintain and interpret hospital policies and procedures in accordance with CLIA, COLA, and DNV regulations.</li>\n <li>Cooperate in planning programs and safety and preparedness for chemical hazards, biological hazards, fire and disaster.</li>\n <li>Attend and participates in hospital committees, as appropriate.</li>\n <li>Responsible for the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of performance improvement and CQI activities.</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Other Job Functions</h2>\n<ul>\n <li>Attend staff meetings or other company sponsored or mandated meetings as required</li>\n <li>Travel to all facility locations as required</li>\n <li><p>Perform additional duties as assigned</p></li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Basic Qualifications</h2>\n<ul>\n <li>Bachelor’s Degree in Biological/Physical Sciences or equivalent combination of education and experience, required</li>\n <li>Maintains Certification as Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) by ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathology) or equivalent, required</li>\n <li>Current state licensure as required by the state in which practicing, required</li>\n <li>Qualification as Lab Director and Technical Consultant in a moderately complex lab as defined by CLIA '88, required</li>\n <li>5+ years’ experience working in a clinical laboratory environment</li>\n <li>5+ years supervisory experience in a clinical laboratory environment with Quality Assurance, statistical Quality Control and laboratory regulations/accreditation requirements, required</li>\n <li><u>Pennsylvania Candidates</u>: Act 33 (Child Abuse History Clearance), & Act 73 (FBI Fingerprint Criminal History Clearance) completed within the last 5 years, or must be obtained prior to start date.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong> </strong></p>",
