Description
Summary Job Goal: The Grant Writer supports AVCP’s funding strategy by researching funding opportunities and developing clear, compelling, and compliant grant proposals and related materials. Working under the direction of the Grants & Compliance function, this position partners with program and finance staff to translate organizational priorities into funder-aligned narratives, work plans, and attachments, and helps ensure grant submissions and related documentation meet internal review requirements and funder deadlines.
Note: This position does not have authority to submit grant applications or accept/execute award agreements without the required internal approvals. Grant applications are submitted only after review and approval as required by AVCP Grants & Compliance policies, and grant awards are accepted/executed only by the CEO or an authorized designee. The Grant Writer supports proposal development and documentation but does not authorize financial commitments, matching/cost-share commitments, or budget modifications.
Performance Responsibilities: Include the following -
Research and identify funding opportunities (federal, state, local, and private) aligned with AVCP mission, strategic priorities, and program needs; summarize opportunity fit, key requirements, and submission timelines for internal decision-making. Draft and edit high-quality grant materials, including letters of inquiry, narratives, statements of need, project descriptions, goals and objectives, evaluation/performance measurement sections, sustainability plans, and required forms/attachments. Coordinate with internal staff (including administrative and programs) to gather accurate program designs, work plans, timelines, outputs/outcomes, data points, and supporting documentation needed for proposals and reports. Coordinate with the CFO/Finance designee to ensure consistency between the proposal narrative and the proposed budget; verify that proposed costs described in the narrative align with the budget structure and funder guidance. Support the Grants & Compliance Director with proposal production, assembly, formatting, and readiness checks to confirm completeness, responsiveness to funder requirements, and timely routing for internal review/approval prior to submission. Maintain organized electronic grant files and working drafts, including application versions, required attachments, submission confirmations, and correspondence, consistent with AVCP grants documentation and retention practices. Support post-award reporting by collaborating with staff in drafting narrative/programmatic report sections as assigned, and by coordinating with program staff to compile performance data and documentation needed for timely, accurate reporting. Assist with tracking submissions, awards, and reporting deadlines by maintaining updates in the grants tracking/calendar system and communicating upcoming deadlines and information requests to relevant staff. Demonstrate working knowledge of grant compliance concepts (e.g., allowable/allocable costs, reporting requirements, recordkeeping) and elevate potential compliance risks or inconsistencies to the Grants & Compliance Director and CFO. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive organizational, personnel, and grant-related information. Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
May provide functional guidance and coordination support to staff contributing to proposal development (e.g., collecting inputs, establishing internal deadlines, and consolidating materials) under the direction of the Grants & Compliance Director.
