Founded in 1910, the school strives to serve an economically, socially and geographically diverse student population within the Kansas City metropilitan area. Academic excellence is a trademark of the school as well as a diverse array of successful co-curricular activities and teams.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>PURPOSE</p>\n<p>We are seeking a career-minded individual to teach Social Studies, starting in August of 2026. The ideal candidate will be a certified teacher with a demonstrated ability to teach in a college preparatory environment.  The teacher will work in a structured and collaborative environment with other faculty members who are committed to the formation of each student according to the principles of the Grad at Grad:  Open to Growth, Intellectually Competent, Religious, Committed to Doing Justice, and Loving.  </p>\n<h2>Responsibilities</h2>\n<p>PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES</p>\n<ul>\n <li>Plan and teach five sections of Social Studies, likely with two preps. (Core Social Studies courses include Human Geography, Modern World History, Us History, and US Government.)</li>\n <li>Collaborate with department and school colleagues in the ongoing curriculum design and review process</li>\n <li>Communicate regularly with students, parents, school counselors, and administrators about student progress</li>\n <li>Participate actively in the school’s co-curricular and spiritual activities</li>\n <li>All other duties as assigned</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Qualifications</h2>\n<p>REQUIREMENTS</p>\n<ul>\n <li>Bachelor's degree in History or related field (Master's preferred)</li>\n <li>Previous Social Studies teaching experience, which ideally includes AP and/or dual credit teaching experience</li>\n <li>Clear understanding of and commitment to Rockhurst High School’s mission</li>\n <li>Student-focused approach to learning, which includes a desire to build positive relationships that are characterized by mutual respect and trust</li>\n <li>Strong understanding of current educational theory and practice</li>\n <li>Ability to incorporate a range of instructional approaches, including discussion-based, project-based, and inquiry-based approaches</li>\n <li>Experience with a range of educational technologies</li>\n</ul>\n<p>PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS</p>\n<ul>\n <li>Ability to stand, sit and move around the classroom and building. </li>\n <li>Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. occasionally.</li>\n <li>Ability to communicate clearly</li>\n <li>Suffifient vision, hearing, and manual dexterity to use computers, phones and office equpment and to participate in meetings and student interactions. </li>\n <li>Ability to communicate clearly in person, in writing, and in group presentations.</li>\n <li>Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends for school events, student or parent programs. </li>\n</ul>\n<p>HOW TO APPLY:</p>\n<p>Please send cover letter, resume and completed Teaching Application to Mike Wickenhauser, Assistant Principal for Academics to [email protected].</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>Rockhurst High School is an Equal Opportunity Employer.</p>",
