AECOM has a position available for Senior Construction Safety Professional in Herndon, VA In this role, the person will be working at a client’s construction sites full-time and act as an owner's representative at a large data center campus construction sites. As the client’s representative, this person will review, report, escalate, and collaborate on the site’s safety programs and environmental compliance plans to promote a culture of safety across the sites and ensure environmental compliance.
The responsibilities of this role include, but may not be limited to, the following:
Monitor and advise on client’s EHS culture and support implementation of EHS procedures and regulatory requirements at the site. Independently develop, implements and maintain safety and health programs, systems, and procedures to reduce risk and exposures. Under minimal direction, supervise personnel engaged in the EHS functions within the company or on the same project. Monitor and work toward minimization of potential hazards and diseases in the work area. Supervise personnel engaged in monitoring and preventing hazards and diseases that could be present throughout the work sites. Work with and advise contractors on the identification and implementation of corrective actions for identified deficiencies or issues. Review and advise on Contractor Environmental Health and Safety Plans (CEHSP) for conformance with owner requirements and local regulations. Serve in a liaison capacity with the resident contract agency representative and other various agencies engaged in promoting EHS activities. Interface and support the construction management team at site by delivering current, accurate and timely data on Contractor EHS performance, including Leading and Lagging Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), trends, incident management, environmental monitoring/responsibilities', EHS metrics and other measurable information that enables the construction management to make informed timely decisions. Represent client’s Construction EHS Team by participating/attending essential meetings not limited to general contractor’s (GC) all-hands, Stand Downs, Orientations, Safety Committee, EHS Leads, Activity Briefing, Coordination Meeting etc. Draft all necessary reports to Federal, State, and local agencies, as well as client stakeholders. Keep informed of existing and proposed changes in occupational health and safety regulations. Assist in the development and conduct of basic EHS training to employees. Communicate incidents, as required, to local and area leadership. Communicate programs to enhance employee awareness of prevention and compliance. May administer an EHS program on a large, specialized, complex project or multiple projects. Support compliance with construction environmental programs, not limited to waste management, stormwater management and plans, spill prevention, control, & countermeasure plans, and air permitting requirements. Independently determine and develop approaches to solutions. Ensure site safety walks are conducted as needed with the Contractor management representative. Evaluate the completeness and effectiveness of the Contractor’s hazard assessments (RAMS, JHAs, ARTs, PTPs, etc.) and communicate opportunities for improvement. Create, validate, and communicate lessons learned via Significant Events (SE) and Significant Potential Events (SPE) with trade partners. Advise client, GC, and Trade Partners on applicable client’s EHS requirements and Contractual Exhibits. Recommend improvements in processes, design, procedures, and operating equipment to minimize hazards. Establish a collaborative relationship with the client’s operation team to facilitate the management of EHS aspects of construction activities. Attend and facilitate client-specific training, campaigns and initiatives as requested. Prepare and provide site-specific construction health and safety training as requested. May act as a lead role for a team of EHS specialists and/or support personnel. Support global construction EHS team in developing, reviewing, and executing global programs and initiatives. Assist with localization of global programs such as translation and transculturation as needed. Conduct topic-specific focused field audit, document verification and personal interviews as needed. Provide technical leadership and functional guidance to ensure regulatory standards are being enforced. Ensure that quality control procedures are executed to monitor all aspects of regulations. Investigate accidents, injuries, and complaints concerning hazards in the workplace. A minimum of 60% of working hours shall be in the field, engaging, coaching, and walking. May include travel to multiple local project locations, as requested.
Minimum Qualifications:
BS/BA +6 years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education. Experience in construction safety or related field. Experience in environmental compliance and industry standards. Valid Driver’s License and as a condition of employment must be able to pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records review. Due to the nature of work, US citizenship is required. Preferred Qualifications:
8+ years of experience in Construction Safety Data center construction or operation experience Experience overseeing a variety of construction trades NFPA 70E Certification OSHA 30 Construction Safety Training OSHA Authorized Trainer Certified Safety Professional or similar certifications Effective verbal and written communication skills with a variety of stakeholders
