An essential function for this position is the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner. </p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION</span></p>\n<p>The Detention Deputy, an entry level position, must manage, regulate and proactively supervise inmate behavior by assessing inmate risk and needs, meet inmate basic needs, define and convey expectations for inmate behavior, and proactively supervise inmate activities to productively influence how they spend their time. This individual must ensure that all duties are performed according to county policy and procedures and in accordance with federal and state laws. Detention Officer works under the direction of the Detention Center Corporal and is responsible for receiving and dispatching routine information and processing and care of detainees</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</span></p>\n<ol>\n<li>Conducts daily inspection and maintenance of housing units and facilities to ensure proper security.</li>\n<li>Performs security and direct supervision duties within inmate housing units to maintain custody and control the activities of inmates; remains constantly alert for prisoner disruptions such as escape planning, fighting, thefts, suicide attempts, and other prohibited activity.</li>\n<li>Maintains a complete and accurate count of all inmates and their locations within the facility; conducts updated count of inmates and unit checks periodically throughout shift.</li>\n<li>Orients inmates to housing units ensuring all inmates understand facility rules.</li>\n<li>Maintains schedules for inmates allowing exercise times, meals, showering, class attendance, medical visits, unit cleaning, laundry exchange, mail delivery, and visitation at appropriate times; documents inmates' activities and movements within the facility.</li>\n<li>Conducts surveillance, unit searches and shakedowns to locate and confiscate any fabricated weapons and contraband; inspects and inventories all cleaning products, tools, equipment, bedding, clothing, and medical equipment.</li>\n<li>Prepares written incident reports documenting rule violations, offenses, or unusual events; testifies at disciplinary hearings and in court as needed.</li>\n<li>Completes daily and weekly jail reports, inmate activity reports, incident reports, court lists, and correspondence with the courts; inputs information into computer system.</li>\n<li>Responds to emergencies such as fights, hostage incidents, riots, and incidents involving aggressive and combative inmates; uses force in restraining inmates as needed.</li>\n<li>Provides security for medical staff during distribution of medicine and physical examinations.</li>\n<li>Receives and searches incoming inmates for contraband or prohibited articles; reviews admission forms for completeness and accuracy before booking inmates; completes paperwork for admittance and enters inmate information into computer; fingerprints and photographs inmates; transmits fingerprints to other law enforcement agencies.</li>\n<li>Performs required screenings, collection and inventory of property; ensures inmates are showered, dressed in issued clothing, and given unit supplies and identification badges.</li>\n<li>Monitors facility operation within the central control room by the operation of technical equipment such as cameras, door lock controls, etc.</li>\n<li>Supervises meal delivery and tray return; ensures inmates with special menus received correct tray; notes inmates refusing meals.</li>\n<li>Ensures inmates with required court appearances are scheduled for transport.</li>\n<li>This is a safety sensitive position and as such an essential function is the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.</li>\n<li>Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.</li>\n</ol>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">QUALIFICATIONS</span></p>\n<p>To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE</span></p>\n<p>High School Diploma or have passed the General Education Development (GED) testing indication high school graduation level.  Home school diplomas will not substitute for the above unless approved by the Commission.  Documentary evidence shall consist of official transcript, diplomas or GED test report form.  In unusual circumstances the Commission may be required to accept other documentation and in such cases the decision of the Commission will be final. Previous experience is not required but preferred.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS</span></p>\n<p>Ability to utilize common sense understanding to carry out written, oral or diagrammed instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving several known variables in situations of a routine nature.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS</span></p>\n<p>Jail Minimum Standards within 9 months from the date of hire.</p>\n<p>No felony convictions.</p>\n<p>Arkansas Driver's License (or ability to immediately obtain license).</p>\n<p>Must be able to pass a physical fitness test semi-annually</p>\n<p>Must be a U.S. citizen and be able to provide proof</p>\n<p>Complete mandated yearly classes as specified by the Commission on Law Enforcement and Training.</p>\n<p>Physical Readiness Testing:</p>\n<p>The Sheriff will authorize appropriate personnel to conduct physical readiness testing (PRT) of all deputies two (2) times in a calendar year.  All Sworn deputies, including detention deputies must perform the following:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>Plank (no time requirements)</li>\n<li>Pushups (no number of time requirements)</li>\n<li>One (1) mile walk (no time requirements</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">SOFTWARE SKILLS REQUIRED</span></p>\n<p>Intermediate: Spreadsheet, Word Processing/Typing</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">MENTAL DEMAND</span></p>\n<p>Close mental demand. Operations require close and continuous attention for control of operations. Operations require intermittent direct thinking to determine or select the most applicable way of handling situations regarding the organization's administration and operations; also to determine or select material and equipment where highly variable sequences are involved.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">ANALYTICAL ABILITY / PROBLEM SOLVING</span></p>\n<p>Moderately structured. Fairly broad activities using moderately structured procedures with only generally guided supervision.     "compensation": "Starting at $37,480 annually (84 hours per 14-day work period) plus holiday pay of $1,647 annually for 12 holidays or $127.28 per holiday per year.  Should the employee work the holiday, he/she will receive pay at time and one-half for all hours worked. ",
