Description

Description This is a position in which the Group Fitness Instructor is expected to lead a group of participants through group fitness classes. Instructors have the opportunity to teach a variety of formats, based on their knowledge, personal experience, and certifications they may have. Formats may include but are not limited to Yoga, Strength, Cycle, Zumba, Barre, Pilates, and High Intensity Interval Training. The Group Fitness Instructors is responsible for designing classes that are safe for participants. Instructors should be able to provide exercise cues, modifications, constructive feedback, and motivation. Administrative responsibilities include timely communication with the supervisor and participants, attending required meetings, keeping participant counts and maintaining knowledge of industry standards. Applications are not required to have a completed nationally recognized certification, but certifications are encouraged. Students who begin working without a nationally recognized certification will have a starting pay rate of $10/hour. Students who already have a nationally recognized certification will have a starting pay rate of $12/hour. Students who are not certified have two options: 1) to complete the In-House Certification Course offered by the Office of Recreation and Wellness and then obtain their national certification within 1 year of employment, or 2) qualify for the Certification Payment Assistant program offered by the Office of Rec & Well in which the student’s certification will be paid for upon hiring. Time: 1–4 classes per week, varying in length from 20–60 minutes Dates: Academic year (Summer Session hours available) Reports to: Assistant Director—Fitness and Student Development, Daniel Scripter
