About This Opportunity Yarmouth Regional Hospital (YRH), Roseway Hospital (RH), and Digby General Hospital (DGH) are seeking emergency physicians. These hospitals are located in the southwest region of Nova Scotia and serve the population of approximately 60,000, in three counties. The successful candidate may also participate in teaching through the family medicine residency program based in Yarmouth and/or with medical students through Dalhousie University. YRH was originally founded in 1912 and has developed into a vast health care complex serving the 60,000 people of Shelburne, Yarmouth, and Digby Counties. Located in Yarmouth, YRH has 124 inpatient beds and provides a range of primary and secondary services through in-patient, outpatient and satellite programs: Dalhousie School of Nursing veteran’s unit chronic pain clinic kidney clinic Services: alternate level of care unit ambulatory care  anesthesiology cancer care centre cardiac investigation and respiratory services continuing care diabetes education diagnostic imaging dialysis emergency medicine falls prevention intensive care unit mental health and addictions services obstetrics and gynecology occupational therapy palliative care physiotherapy pre-natal clinic public health recreation therapy spiritual care stroke program surgical unit DGH, historically founded in 1924, provides medical care to residents of the surrounding areas including primary, inpatient, restorative, and ambulatory care as well as day surgery. Located in Digby, the 20-bed medical and alternate level of care (ALC) unit works closely with the collaborative emergency centre (CEC) in Annapolis Royal and Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. DGH also has a 13-bed restorative care unit that supports patients through rehabilitation. Services include: cardiac respiratory services continuing care diagnostic imaging emergency medicine laboratory services medical and surgical unit mental health and addiction services palliative care physiotherapy public health services occupational therapy nutrition and diabetes counseling speech therapy telehealth room services Responsibilities examine patients, order diagnostic tests and laboratory procedures advise patients on health care, health promotion, and disease prevention consult and refer to other medical practitioners act as a patient advocate prescribe and administer medications and treatments, inoculations and vaccinations Expected Hours full-time between YRH and DGH College of Family Physicians of Canada Emergency Medicine certification would be considered an asset all applicants must be eligible for licensure with the  College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia  (CPSNS) all family physicians must be eligible for certification with the  College of Family Physicians of Canada  (CFPC) membership with the  Canadian Medical Protective Association  (CMPA) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Basic Cardiac Life Support  (BCLS) Care of the Critically Ill Surgical Patient  (CCrISP) Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) emergency department experience an asset Community Details Shelburne, Yarmouth and Digby are located at the southwestern end of Nova Scotia serving a population of approximately 60,000 in three counties.  Yarmouth  is located at the southwestern most tip of Nova Scotia serving a population of approximately 60,000 in three counties.
