We seek employees who bring different and innovative ways of seeing the world and solving problems.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>The <strong>Shared Resources Specialist I – Preclinical Modeling</strong> is responsible for supporting the preclinical research needs of researchers using transgenic and preclinical mouse models, including patient-derived xenografts, at Fred Hutch. The Specialist will perform a variety of technical procedures including embryo transfer and other basic surgical procedures to support the science of creating and maintaining preclinical mouse models. This is an entry level position within the resource within Shared Resources with substantial room for growth. </p>\n<p> </p>\n<h2>Responsibilities</h2>\n<p><strong>Research Support:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Involves research support that is mainly SOP directed, ensuring the Specialist develops a strong understanding of the fundamental science performed in Preclinical Modeling core.</li>\n <li>Performs essential tasks in the development of preclinical mouse models such as tasks related to mouse husbandry and colony management such as setting up breeding pairs, manage breeding rotations and setting up timed pregnancies. Additional research support tasks include managing surgical mouse models. This position is expected to be proficient with basic transgenic mouse techniques such as embryo handling and manipulation, embryo transfer surgeries, and gamete cryopreservation. </li>\n <li>Will learn and perform new technical skills.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Research development:</strong> </p>\n<ul>\n <li>Establish and maintain positive, collaborative working relationships with faculty and external users to identify preclinical mouse model needs.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Equipment Oversight:</strong> </p>\n<ul>\n <li>Perform basic equipment operation and maintenance.</li>\n <li>Learn to coordinate and complete maintenance on basic equipment used in preclinical modeling core such as microscopes and surgical supplies. </li>\n <li>Potentially review and identify new equipment needs.</li>\n <li>Assist in supply management and preparation.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Training and Education:</strong> </p>\n<ul>\n <li>Assist in developing team SOPs, and training materials and guidelines for investigator use. </li>\n <li>May supervise work-study students, interns and lab aids.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Administrative tasks:</strong> </p>\n<ul>\n <li>Report or deliver results to users.</li>\n <li>Accurately document laboratory activities.</li>\n <li>Perform basic billing requirements.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Regulatory and Compliance:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Assure that all work done is in accordance with an IACUC approved protocol. </li>\n <li>Provide regulatory and compliance support for this shared resource.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>Other duties as assigned including work on weekends, evenings, or holiday shifts as part of a rotation.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>The PCM Specialist is classified as essential personnel and, as such, is required to work with minimal number of absences and during all Center closures except in the event of a major disaster when access to animal housing and use facilities is prohibited by governmental emergency personnel. </p>\n<h2>Qualifications</h2>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Bachelor’s degree in the field of Education: Science, engineering, zoology, or related field, Or</li>\n <li>Associate Degree and 1+ years of experience, Or</li>\n <li>GED/ High School Diploma and 3+ years of experience.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>AALAS certification at the LAT or higher level is recommended, and persons hired for this position should continue to pursue this certification as soon as possible once eligible until achieved.</li>\n <li>Demonstrated ability to learn and adapt to new systems and techniques.</li>\n <li>Ability to learn and operate all PCM procedural techniques.</li>\n <li>Basic understanding of preclinical research using in vivo models.</li>\n <li>Excellent communication skills and organizational skills.</li>\n <li>Ability to work in a collaborative team-oriented environment.</li>\n <li>Experience with MS Office suite of applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Sharepoint, Teams, One Drive, etc).</li>\n <li>Record keeping and database management.</li>\n <li>Basic rodent handling and procedural/ surgical skills.</li>\n <li>Small animal surgeries using stereomicroscope.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>The hourly pay range for this position is from $29.77 to $42.39 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.Although Fred Hutch is not sponsoring most H-1B visas at this time, candidates who already hold an H-1B sponsored by another organization and are currently in the U.S. may be eligible for this position.Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center offers employees a comprehensive benefits package designed to enhance health, well-being, and financial security.
