Description
This position is funded through either department funds or Federal Work Study (FWS) funds. Students who are not eligible for FWS are still encouraged to apply, as department funding may be available.
Manager: Tim Homan
Hours Per Week : Averages 0-6 hours, with potential for additional shifts per student requests. Evening and weekend hours required. Students will be paid by tutoring sessions held.
Length of Appointment : August Through May with potential to continue over the summer.
Location: On Campus
Position Overview
Provides individual and group tutoring to students throughout the academic year. These sessions are held both virtually and face to face.

Tutor students individually or in scheduled group study sessions to review principles, solve problems, and review for tests. Check for students’ understanding of concepts and modify instructional strategies to deepen students’ learning. Schedule student appointments using Navigate. Submit reports to faculty at the conclusion of tutoring sessions. Meet periodically with professors to design practice problems. Maintain confidential records and files, ensuring that ethical and legal guidelines are maintained. Affirm the strengths of talented students who aspire to deepen their learning. Create inclusive, confidential learning environments in accordance with Augustana’s core values and federal/state legislation. Serve as a peer mentor during FYS core value events, such as academic planner labs and success session series events. Refers students to other agencies as appropriate. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Anticipated full-time enrollment for the upcoming semester at AU as a sophomore or higher undergraduate or graduate student. Have completed the class or a class of a higher level than tutoring is to take place Ability to manage time and schedules effectively. Excellent interpersonal communication skills. Ability to build rapport quickly with others. Minimum GPA of 3.0 in courses affiliated with the discipline (e.g., BIOL, ACCT, MATH) being tutored. Flexible schedule to accommodate students’ availability. Strong ability to connect with diverse student populations. Ability to work independently and strong attention to detail. Project a professional demeanor. Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Endorsed or nominated by faculty for both subject-matter expertise and interpersonal skills. Experience working with diverse students. Knowledge of educational psychology, teaching pedagogy, or peer counseling. Strong written communication skills. Conditions of Employment
This position requires a background check when appointed and disclosure of any charges that may occur once hired.
Hiring for this position generally occurs at the end of the fall and spring semesters but may occur throughout the year on an as needed basis.
