St. Vincent de Paul Society of San Francisco operates the Multi-Service Center - Northern California’s largest homeless shelter, the Division Circle Navigation Center for chronically homeless individuals and couples and the Riley Center - Domestic Violence shelter and services for survivors. SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Shift Supervisor, the Temporary Program Aid Liaison is responsible for assisting in the general operation of the MSC. This position is responsible for monitoring the building, guests, providing resources, and ensuring the safety of the shelter for the staff and guests. This is a full-time, none-exempt, temporary position working from approximately 5/18/26 - 9/15/26. We are hiring two positions. The schedule would be either 12:00pm - 8:30pm or 2:00pm to 10:30pm.
SALARY/BENEFITS:
The Temporary Program Aid Liaison position starts at $25.00 per hour.
Sick Time accrued in accordance with the San Francisco Paid Sick Leave Ordinance (PSLO). Employees earn 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide resource and referral information for guests. Monitor and control activities in the Shelter and your assigned posts, ensuring the safety and respectful treatment of guests and staff at all times. Carry necessary Personal Protective Equipment, such as gloves at all times and use as appropriate. Follow and maintain all rules and regulations described in the Shelter’s operations manual. Implement and adhere to Standards of Care per City/County legislation. Assist in maintaining electronic guest records in the City’s ONE System, Zoho, and Envoy software to record guest data. Assist in maintaining electronic individual case files, daily logs, and service statistics in an accurate and timely manner. Conduct new guest screenings: review applications and interview new guests. Assist guests in maintaining stability by offering support and linkage to services. Participate in on-going staff development and training, through employer and the required training with Dept. of Public Health. Problem solving the guest to determine how best to assist the guest. Conduct wellness checks of assigned area, continuously while on Duty. Perform bed checks. Distribute and collect blankets and towels. Monitor meal lines. Responsible for cleanliness of bed and work areas, including restrooms. Attend monthly all-staff meetings. Perform other appropriate duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school graduation or equivalent. Good English communication skills, both verbal and written. Experience and ability to work with men and women who are homeless, indigent, alcoholic, mentally ill, and/or unemployed. Ability to maintain accurate records. Ability to work well under pressure and in crisis situations. Ability to learn new skills and follow procedures. Proficient in data entry, learning new software, and Microsoft Word. Ability to maintain collaborative and cooperative working relationships. Understanding homeless issues, especially in context of race, class, gender, and sexual identity. Understanding Housing First Approach to care for homeless populations. Understanding coordinated entry system. Demonstrated use of Vincentian values such as respect, dignity, integrity, collaboration, justice, stewardship, compassion, guest advocacy and resourcefulness. Knowledge, experience, and comfort working with a diverse community, including LGBTQQ, youth, immigrant, low-income communities, and communities of color. Demonstrated commitment to open, direct, and non-violent communication. Ability to de-escalate crisis situations and make decisions under pressure. Proficient reporting skills including data entry, Excel, and Word processing. Strong initiative and ability to work both independently and cooperatively with staff and management. Ability to maintain professional boundaries with guests, volunteers, and staff. Commitment to the mission of St. Vincent de Paul Society of San Francisco. Covid vaccination and negative result on TB test required.
