Description

Description The Chief of Service (COS) provides oversight, leadership, and guidance for the University Volunteer Ambulance Corps (UVAC), a long-standing student-run service that responds to emergency calls on campus and elsewhere in the community. The COS ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations related to Emergency Medical Services (EMS), manages daily medical and financial operations, maintains licensure and protocol compliance, coordinates event schedules, mutual aid agreements, and the AED program, and serves as a role model and mentor to student leaders in support of UVAC’s mission to “provide the highest quality of care, both physical and emotional, to the University of Maine community.” The Assistant Director of Operations supports emergency preparedness and fire safety operations for Auxiliary Enterprises’ departments: reviews and implements life safety plans and procedures, coordinates safety and emergency preparedness training for staff, and manages internal response procedures to emerging and active threats and for continuity of operations during weather, environmental, or infrastructure emergencies. The Assistant Director plays a key role in strategic organizational planning and department-wide emergency response initiatives as part of the Auxiliary Enterprises Leadership Team. The Chief of Service/Assistant Director serves on the UMaine Emergency Operations Committee (EOC), representing UVAC and Auxiliaries to support campus-wide public safety and emergency response efforts. This position fosters collaborative relationships with departments and agencies and maintains a visible and engaged presence on campus and in the broader community. Typical hiring range for this position is $65,000 to $67,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience. Qualifications: Required: Typically holds a bachelor’s degree and 5 years of professional experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Five to seven years of experience as an EMT. Current certifications in CPR and First Aid, and licensed to practice as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Registered Nurse (R.N.), or Paramedic. Valid Maine driver’s license. Knowledge of and experience with the National Incident Management System (NIMS) with certification in ICS 100, 200, and 700. Ability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word. Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills are essential for dealing effectively with all segments of the University community. Experience leading, motivating, and mentoring staff, and building collaborative work teams. Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion, independent judgment, initiative, and manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively. Strong analytical and reasoning skills for assessing and solving problems, organizing resources, establishing priorities, and making decisions. Preferred: National Incident Management System (NIMS) certification in ICS 300 and 400. Experience with the Maine State Bridge electronic medical records system. Experience and skill in strategic planning and successful experience with change management are desirable.
