Description PHYSICAL LOCATION: Moody Neurorehabilitation Institute MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Clean and organize work area and disinfect equipment after treatment. under the direction of a therapist, safeguard and assist patients during therapy interventions as needed implement basic therapeutic modalities and assisting with all aspects of treatment under direct supervision of a licensed therapist Observe patients during treatment to compile and evaluate data on patients responses and progress, and report to the treating therapist. Instruct, motivate, safeguard, and assist patients practicing exercises and functional activities, under direction of physical therapist and medical staff. Secure patients on/off therapy equipment. Consult/communicate with all therapy staff to discuss and evaluate patient information for planning, modifying, and coordinating treatment. Record treatment given and equipment used. Maintain equipment and furniture to keep it in good working condition, including performing the assembly and disassembly of equipment and accessories. Administer active and passive manual therapeutic exercises, therapeutic massage, and electrical modality treatments under the direction of a licensed therapist. Arrange treatment supplies to keep them in order. Assist patients to dress, undress, and put on and remove supportive devices, such as braces, splints, and slings. Assist in transport to/from pool and therapeutic delivery for aquatic therapy. Carry out all therapeutic activities as designed by the clinical staff. Attend in-services, workshops, seminars, and staff meetings. Maintain confidentiality. Provide safe and secure environment for patient. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES The ability to work well with other people. Able to stimulate and motivate persons with problems in motivational. Awareness of cultural differences as it pertains to participation in therapy Ability to demonstrate flexibility, organization, and good judgment. Ability to receive and follow instructions accurately. Knowledge of philosophical and ethical considerations in rehabilitation practice. Hold current CPR and first aid certifications. Ability to communicate accurate and pertinent information through documentations. Ability to execute emergency procedures. Ability to work 8-5 shift. Ability to assist clients with transfers and other aspects of mobility as required Certified in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI) Current/valid Drivers license. Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. Physical ability to break the fall of a patient. EDUCATION: High-School Diploma. College background helpful; Behavioral Science B.A. preferred. Psychology courses helpful. EXPERIENCE: Prefer at least two years experience in Residential Behavioral Rehabilitation Program, or two years experience with disabled population, dealing with cognitive problem or 60 hours of college will be substituted for experience. DEMANDS AND CHARACTERISTICS OF WORK, EQUIPMENT USAGE, AND WORK ENVIRONMENT. PERCENTAGE OF WORK TIME (1-33%) Standing/Walking Twisting Climbing (Ascending/Descending) Sitting Lifting/Carrying Pushing/Pulling Bending/Stooping Using arm muscles frequently or for extended periods Using leg muscles frequently or for extended periods Using back muscles frequently or for extended periods LIFTING REQUIREMENTS - individuals in clinical care positions are required to lift a trainee/client without assistance. (1-33%) 2 - 10 Pounds 21 - 30 Pounds 31 - 40 Pounds 41 - 50 Pounds LIFTING REQUIREMENTS - individuals in clinical care positions are required to lift a trainee/client without assistance. The major visual functions are: Acuity, far - clarity of vision at 20 feet or more. Acuity, near - clarity of vision at 20 inches or less. Depth perception - three-dimensional vision. The ability to judge distance and space relationships so as to see objects where and as they actually are they actually are. Field of vision - the area that can be seen up and down or to the right or left while the eyes are fixed on a given point. Accommodation - adjustment of the lens of the eye to bring an object into sharp focus. This item is especially important when doing near-point work at varying distances from the eye.
