Position: Summer Camp Counselor
Department: Youth & Camp
Classification: Seasonal, non-benefitted, At-Will, June 202 6 - Aug. 202 6
Reports to: Reports to the Youth & Camp Director
Summary :
Under the direction of the Camp & Youth Director, the Camp Counselor will interact with and supervise campers aged 5 -15 years old. Camp Counselors will assist with planning and implementing daily camp activities for a group of campers. Work to en sure that the camp operates in a safe manner at all times and ensure the implementation of group activities whil e creating a welcoming and enjoyable experience for all . Camp Counselors are expected to uphold, and role model the values of Camp Shalom. Time commitment for this position is 8:30am-5:00pm Monday Through Friday during the months of June-August, additional hours as needed. Must be able to commit to the majority of 9 weeks, June 1st - July 3 1 st , 2026, with the option to remain on through August 14 th for Post-Camp August 3 rd -14 th , 2026.
Areas of Responsibility
Must have the knowledge of campers’ whereabouts at all times.
Actively facilitates camper development in re creational a ctivities, s ocial s kills d evelopment, v alues, m ulti- c ultural and e nvironmental a wareness.
Maintain a positive attitude and conduct with the staff team as a positive role model.
Assist in development, implementation, and evaluation of daily camp activities.
Adhere to and enforce c amp policies and procedures in a safe manner at all times.
Attendance at staff meetings and pre-camp training (mandatory)
Be prompt to all work shifts and assignments adher ing to the da ily camp schedule and operating calendar.
Maintains all camp equipment and supplies.
Care about and give attention to campers’ needs.
Performs all other duties as assigned by Camp Leadership.
**Ability to work traditional business hours as well as non-traditional hours as business
Effect on End Result: The effectiveness of this position will be measured by:
Purposeful and coordinated programs that advance Camp and JSV strategic goals, good public relations, sound financial position, and good records systems.

Qualifications
Qualifications and competencies:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty at a high-quality level. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Education and/or experience:
Minimum of 16 years of age (over 18 years old preferred)
ECE units or Recreation units desired.
Specific Certification Requirements:
Current American Red Cross CPR for Child and Adult or willingness to obtain.
Current American Red Cross First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain.
If over 18 years old - Completion and clearance of background fingerprint assessment via the JSV Specific Live scan location.
If under 18 years old - current Work Permi t required.
** Employees at JSV may have availability to attend in-house Certification courses, please check with the Camp Director as to availability.
Language skills:
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors, co-workers, volunteers, members, parents, donors, and the public.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Must possess the ability to make sound independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.

Ability to work both in an outside and inside environment, different temperature extremes.
Ability and willingness to get in the swimming pool to supervise swimming time.
