Description

Overview With the general supervision from the Learning Zone Assistant Director, plan, prepare, and conduct all educational and recreational activities for the class assigned on a daily basis. Responsibilities Prepare and conduct daily educational activities within the assigned classroom conducting all assessments and keeping appropriate records as required by licensing agencies and The Salvation Army. Prepare weekly lesson plans that introduce new and interesting concepts to the students. Ensure that these lessons comply with the Ohio Learning Standards and help to prepare the students for future academic success. Conduct parent/teacher conferences each year for each child assigned to the classroom as required by the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services. Prepare daily summaries to provide to parents/guardians each day indicating highlights of the child’s educational day and any specific notes the parent/guardian should be made aware. Maintain good relationships with parents of each child assigned to the classroom including scheduling of the parent/teacher conferences and providing progress reports to the parents. Oversee and guide assistant teacher or other individuals assigned to the classroom. Attend to the physical needs of children, being alert to any symptoms of illness as well as careful prevention of accident causing situations. Immediately report any accident involving either a child or staff member. The report is to be in writing as required by The Salvation Army and licensing agencies. Plan and conduct regularly scheduled Field Trips both on campus and off campus, driving Salvation Army vehicles to transport children when scheduled Complete training and support The Salvation Army’s KeepSAfe Child and Vulnerable Adult safety program and support all reporting requirements as required by The Salvation Army and State of Ohio. Complete The Salvation Army and State of Ohio Driver Training as required to operate Salvation Army vehicles within the State of Ohio regulations for licensing, maintaining a valid State of Ohio Driver’s license and completing annual BMV report requirements. Be prepared to drive as needed. Establish, maintain and regularly provide professional development updates to your OCCRRA profile. Maintain equipment, supplies, etc. in the classroom assigned, including daily general cleanliness of the classroom, closet, cupboards, bathrooms, etc. Uphold all policies of The Salvation Army and give the utmost care in upholding the philosophy as stated in its mission statement. Attend all staff meetings and staff trainings as required by The Salvation Army and licensing agencies. Attend and help conduct all Family Nights hosted by The Learning Zone. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Learning Zone Pre-School/Childcare Assistant Director or Area Coordinators. Upholds and represents The Salvation Army in the highest esteem. Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND/OR EXPERIENCE Associate degree appropriate to school age children and ODJFS trainings as required. Minimum two years of experience in a childcare environment A valid State of Ohio Driver’s license – for use in transporting children and/or conducting other assigned Salvation Army business as needed. An appreciation and support for a Christian-based learning environment PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or an equivalent field of study. CPL Level 3 in OCCRA. SPECIAL SKILLS, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS : Must be certified in CPR/First Aid/Communicable Diseases/Child Abuse as state licensing requirements deem necessary.
