Organization Description Herron Classical Schools is a community of scholars that advances timeless ideas and content, builds a culture of respect and trust, and engages in an urban environment in order to prepare students to be world-class citizens. We are founded on the belief that a classical, liberal arts education, where students are steeped in great historical thought and invention, is the best preparation for a future life of leadership and service. We are structured around a classical methodology which emphasizes the classical art and literature of many cultures. The Herron Classical Schools Network (Herron High School, Herron-Riverside High School, and Herron Preparatory Academy) is a Mayor-sponsored charter network and a member of the Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) Innovation Network. The Herron Classical Schools network operates with the authority to make decisions about all aspects of our schools and is overseen by its own board of directors. As Innovation schools, we partner with IPS to give students a broader base of resources while maintaining our status as tuition-free charter schools. Our Core Values 1. Believes that every student is a scholar. 2. Engages in an urban community. 3. Advances timeless ideas and content. 4. Builds a culture of respect and trust through relationships with people and ideas. 5. Serves as a catalyst for renewal. Herron Classical Schools’ Summer Academy is looking for enthusiastic educators interested in instructing students in English courses this summer. Summer Academy is an intensive credit recovery program that can allow students to obtain two credit hours over the course of the summer. Instructors would teach during our thirteen day term in July to a single section of students from 8AM to 2PM each day (M-F). Compensation for this position is a stipend (reduced by any days when a substitute is required), including two required professional development days in July. Professional Development: July 6 and June 7, 2026 Summer Academy: Wed, July 8, 2026 - Fri, July 24, 2026 at Herron High School, 8AM - 2PM Teachers at Herron Classical Schools: Embrace the classical, liberal arts mission. Commit to high academic and behavioral expectations. Focus on effective instruction in every classroom. Engage in a collaborative environment. Differentiate for a diverse culture and abilities. Demonstrate passion for and expertise in their content area. Plan instruction that is results-oriented and research-based. Exhibit relentless dedication to the academic success of every student. Engage in continual professional reflection.
