Middle School Science Teacher Pool 2026-2027
ABOUT US: Arts in Action Community Middle School opened in the Fall of 2016 and serves students in grades 6-8. We believe that all students deserve access to the arts. We believe that instruction should be culturally relevant, inclusive, and meet the diverse needs of all learners. JOB DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of the Director of the Middle School, serve as a science teacher through planning, delivering and assessing instructional lessons aligned with the California Common Core Standards.

The school has a comprehensive science curriculum, Amplify Science, however, science teachers are also free to create their own lessons. Teachers receive significantly higher year to year pay increases compared to many district and charter schools. A year 1 science teacher with no additional units beyond a BA is guaranteed at least a $72,000 starting wage and a $3,000-$5,000 retention stipend bonus at the end of the academic year. The school offers longevity bonuses to all teachers. Additional (optional opportunities) to work during summer school We have a great team and amazing students! RESPONSIBILITIES:
Encourage and inspire students to love science and learning Promote the academic success and holistic growth of all students, collaborate with colleagues on curriculum design and instruction Use ongoing assessments to adapt instruction to students’ needs and monitor progress Meet with parents to communicate student’s strengths and areas of growth Implement effective classroom management strategies based on restorative justice practices Understand and organize subject matter for student learning by developing and implementing an appropriate Scope and Sequence Engage and support all students in learning by planning standards-based lessons Provide varied instruction as appropriate in order to attempt to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students Participate and collaborate in grade-level, staff, and planning meetings Build relationships with students, staff and parents Develop as a professional educator and seek to improve competency by regularly participating in professional growth activities Collaborate and support Assistant Teachers. Teaching at Arts in Action Community Middle School is unique in the following ways:
Multiple structures for creating strong school culture, including AIA Creed, Advisory, robust special education program and supports, and Restorative Justice practices Social Justice project based learning where students study current social problems and engage in actions to improve those issues Full-time School Counselors and Behavior Interventionists on staff to support students and families with social-emotional learning and wellbeing Scheduled daily teacher collaboration and common planning time during the school day Assistant Teachers who are assigned to support classroom instruction and help lead intervention QUALIFICATIONS:
Single subject science teaching credential (support can be provided to transfer credentials from out of state) Teaching experience preferred Ability to establish/foster a positive and safe school culture Possesses a growth mindset and a love of learning WAGE AND BENEFITS: The salary for this job is competitive and commensurate with experience; in addition we offer a competitive benefits package including CALSTRS participation and free medical, dental, and vision options. Salary range for fully credentialed science teachers is: $72,000-$101,800. Additional year 1 and longevity stipends are offered. Teachers are compensated based on their placement on a scale of developing, lead and distinguished teacher with consideration of additional education units.
