Description

Overview PURPOSE STATEMENT: Responsible for safeguarding patient’s protected rights under Michigan’s Mental Health Code and CMS when receiving services. Responsibilities ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: · Receive reports of and investigates apparent or suspected violations of rights. · Act on behalf of recipients of mental health services to obtain remedies for apparent violations. · Receive, review and investigate reports of alleged violations of recipient’s rights guaranteed under Chapter 7 of the mental health code and CMS conditions of participation. · Promote resolution of substantial violations. · Prepare and review agency policies, procedures and standards relating to the rights of recipients. · Conduct new hire rights training. · Develop policies and procedures regarding the protection of rights of clients while recommending improvements. · Attend hospital orientation, staff meetings and keeps all yearly mandatories up-to-date as required. · Responsible for county rights audits. · Conduct onsite visitations. · Ensure compliance of annual rights training. · Provide staff management to including hiring, development, training, performance management and communication to ensure effective and efficient department operation. · Demonstrate a positive, empathetic and professional attitude towards customers always. When patient needs are not met, acknowledge and work to resolve complaints. Recognize that patient safety is a top priority. OTHER FUNCTIONS: · Perform other functions and tasks as assigned. Qualifications EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS: · High school diploma or equivalent required. · Bachelor’s Degree in human services, management, public administration, social science or law from an accredited college is preferred. · One or more years’ of professional experience in investigation and advocacy within a private or public human services agency required.
