Position Summary Seabird Island is committed to strengthening nursing practice and supporting the ongoing growth of our health teams through culturally grounded education and mentorship. The Nursing Practice Lead strengthens nursing practice across Seabird Island’s health services through hands-on mentorship, clinical teaching, and practice consultation. Grounded in cultural safety and First Nations ways of knowing, the role builds the skills and confidence of nurses and primary care staff by providing real-time support, role-modelling best practices, and guiding competency development. Working under the direction of the Acting Health Services Administrative Lead, the Nursing Practice Lead designs and delivers orientation, in-service education, and ongoing coaching, while fostering a learning culture that improves access, quality, and client outcomes in community-centred care. Conduct supportive competency assessments; create individualized learning plans and provide formative feedback to build clinical judgment, cultural safety, and confidence. Advise on clinical standards, scopes of practice, documentation, and care pathways; support problem-solving for complex cases. Develop practical teaching resources (job aids, quick guides, checklists) to support consistent, high-quality practice. Education, Orientation & Skill Development Lead nurse orientation and in-service education; coordinate learning schedules, content, and follow-up coaching. Identify team and individual learning needs through observation, discussion, and review of competency data; align learning objectives with practice priorities. Support preceptors and mentors; promote adult-learning principles and reflective practice across the team. Cultural Safety & Equity Champion culturally safe, trauma-informed care that honours First Nations knowledge, traditions, and community priorities. Review and implement evidence-based practices that reduce health disparities and promote equitable, accessible services for all clients. Integrate cultural teachings and community input into education materials and practice guidance. Quality Improvement & Program Development Use data, feedback, and case reviews to identify practice gaps; recommend and implement improvements that enhance safety, access, and outcomes. Align clinical practice standards with community health strategies and service delivery goals. Contribute to the development, evaluation, and refinement of programs, protocols, and care pathways. Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement Collaborate with interdisciplinary providers, Health Quality, Elders/Knowledge Keepers, community partners, and external educators to coordinate learning and strengthen continuity of care. Provide consultation on clinical issues, population health trends, and community health priorities; share learnings and promising practices across teams. Health Promotion & Community Education Mentor staff to plan and deliver health promotion workshops, seminars, and community information sessions that align with clinical health, public health trends, and community needs. Co-develop educational tools and materials aligned with community needs and wellness goals. What you bring Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) from a recognized institution. Recent experience in primary clinical care and/or community health services. Experience providing clinical mentorship, staff education, and orientation/training. Experience working with Indigenous communities; demonstrated understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and contemporary issues. Working / Special Conditions Initial and ongoing employment is subject to submission of a clear Criminal Record Check to ensure the safety and trust of the communities we serve. This check will be conducted every five years. Initial and ongoing commitment to the values and guidelines of Sq'éwqel (Seabird Island Band), including our policies, procedures, standards of practice, and laws, is essential. Must possess a valid class 5 driver's license and have access to safe and reliable transportation, insured for community-based use, to effectively travel between our facilities and the communities we serve to support our clients and work.
