The Iñupiaq way of life is woven into our curriculum, programs, activities, and daily interactions within <span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 10pt\">Ilisagvik</span> College and our community partners. <br></em></span></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Inter', sans-serif; text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">SUMMARY OF POSITION: </span></span></p>\n<p>The Maintenance Specialist II/III performs a full spectrum of routine and skilled maintenance services, such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, HVAC, grounds, and general trades across campus. This role includes interpreting technical documentation, operating heavy equipment, responding to emergencies (including on‑call duties), and maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient campus environment.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Inter', sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: 15px\"><br></span></span></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Inter', sans-serif; font-weight: bold\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: </span></span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Conduct regular inspections of facilities, equipment, and grounds to identify repair needs, preventive maintenance opportunities, and potential safety improvements.</li>\n<li>Execute maintenance and repairs in diverse trades, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, HVAC, painting, roofing, signage, and general construction, utilizing appropriate tools and schematics.</li>\n<li>Operate heavy and light heavy equipment (e.g., loaders, forklifts, backhoes, skid steers) as required.</li>\n<li>Interpret and act upon blueprints, schematics, technical diagrams, and work orders.</li>\n<li>Quickly assess and address emergency alarms, system failures, and urgent repair needs; remain available for on‑call response.</li>\n<li>Support campus operations by helping with setups, teardowns, furniture moves, event staging, snow/ice removal, and grounds tasks.</li>\n<li>Maintain accurate records, including logs of work performed, materials used, and completed work orders; prepare reports as needed.</li>\n<li>Adhere to all relevant college policies, and federal, state, and local laws, including safety standards (e.g., OSHA, EPA).</li>\n<li>Perform other related duties as assigned.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Inter', sans-serif; font-weight: bold; text-decoration: underline\">KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Demonstrated multi‑trade maintenance expertise in community or remote/Arctic environments.</li>\n<li>Solid grasp of building codes, construction safety practices, and emergency protocols.</li>\n<li>Experience operating heavy machinery and equipment safely.</li>\n<li>Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication abilities.</li>\n<li>Previous experience training or mentoring others in general construction and safe practices.</li>\n<li>Ability to travel periodically as required.</li>\n<li>Clean driving record: valid driver’s license required.</li>\n<li>Capability to pass background checks and work effectively in a multicultural setting.</li>\n<li>Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of one or more of the following: post-secondary education systems, North Slope Borough institutions and organizations, and Iñupiat culture, language, and values.</li>\n<li>Ability to support Iḷisaġvik College’s mission.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Inter', sans-serif; font-weight: bold\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">EDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/EXPERIENCE [Required]:</span></span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>High school diploma or equivalent.</li>\n<li>At least 3 years of experience in building maintenance, construction, and skilled trades.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Inter', sans-serif\"> </span></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Inter', sans-serif\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">EDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/TRAINING [Preferred]:</span></span></span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Associate’s degree or vocational training in a related field (e.g., building construction, trades, HVAC)Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or the ability to obtain one within 180 days.<br></li>\n<li>Certifications such as Construction Trades Endorsement, HazMat, EPA Universal (for refrigerants), or forklift/heavy equipment operation.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Inter', sans-serif\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:</span> </span>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
