The Position
The PLC and Drives Engineer provides technical support and leadership for maintenance crews and contractors performing corrective maintenance, preventive and predictive maintenance, project installations, and reliability improvements throughout the mill. This role supports troubleshooting efforts with Electrical & Instrumentation personnel and Process Control Technicians while helping improve equipment reliability and operational performance.

Job Responsibilities
Provide daily troubleshooting support and technical direction for PLC and motor drive related issues alongside the E&I crew.
Develop, modify, and maintain PLC programming for system upgrades, reliability improvements, and new equipment installations.
Configure, program, and support motor drive systems for new installations and existing equipment.
Support corrective maintenance, preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, and capital project work throughout the mill.
Troubleshoot electrical, instrumentation, PLC, and drive system issues to minimize downtime and improve equipment reliability.
Provide technical support to maintenance crews, Process Control Technicians, contractors, engineering, and production teams.
Train and mentor E&I personnel in troubleshooting and maintaining PLCs, motor drives, and related control systems.
Assist with continuous improvement and reliability initiatives to improve mill performance and operational efficiency.
Maintain accurate documentation related to programming changes, troubleshooting activities, and system modifications.
Follow and promote all company safety policies, procedures, and environmental standards.
Employment Terms
Full-time, Exempt position
Salary range: $125,000 to $193,750 DOE
Excellent benefits package including medical, dental, life, and long-term disability insurance.
Competitive paid vacation plan.
9 paid holidays and one paid personal holiday per calendar year.
Retirement plan.

Qualifications
Minimum of five (5) years of relevant industrial maintenance, controls, or electrical engineering experience.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience troubleshooting, programming, and supporting PLCs, motor drives, and industrial control systems.
Working knowledge of PLC platforms including Square D, Allen-Bradley, and GE VersaMax systems.
Experience with ABB ACS/DCS 880, Allen-Bradley PowerFlex, GE DC2000, and medium voltage PowerFlex 7000 series drives preferred.
Knowledge of DCS systems, VFDs, field instrumentation, MCCs, and medium voltage systems.
Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Effective communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work cross-functionally with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams.
Strong organizational, leadership, and time management skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and CMMS systems preferred.
Experience in pulp and paper manufacturing or other heavy industrial environments preferred.
