    "description": "<h2>Overview</h2>\n<p>Company:            HarperCollins Canada</p>\n<p>Job Title:             Production Editor</p>\n<p>Department(s):   Creative Operations</p>\n<p>Reports to:          Asst Mgr, Prod Editorial</p>\n<p>Status:                 Regular full time</p>\n<p>Location:              22 Adelaide St W., Toronto (hybrid model) </p>\n<p>Job Vacancy Status:     Vacant and actively accepting applications</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>HarperCollins is currently seeking a Production Editor in the Harlequin imprint group to assist in the production editorial process on a wide variety of titles, both fiction and nonfiction, representing a broad and diverse collection of voices, cultures, and perspectives.     </p>\n<h2>Responsibilities</h2>\n<p>Specifically, the Production Editor handles production editorial work from manuscript through bound book for a variety of formats, including novels, and nonfiction titles across varied genres and subject matter.</p>\n<ul>\n <li>Assesses and styles manuscripts using proprietary Microsoft Word and Harper’s proprietary software, for copyediting, design, and composition.</li>\n <li>Hires freelance copy editors and indexers, and oversees their work.</li>\n <li>Collates and processes proofreads and slugs in Adobe Acrobat, and checks all stages of proofs and PDFs, for interiors.</li>\n <li>Copyedits flap and back cover copy and proofreads and checks all stages of jacket/cover proofs.</li>\n <li>Works with editors, designers, authors, managing editors, and production managers in anticipating and resolving problems.</li>\n <li>Evaluates and coordinates artwork as needed.</li>\n <li>Shepherds multiple projects while maintaining high standards of quality control and meeting strict deadlines, often under tight production schedules.</li>\n <li>Marks up pdfs for audio recordings.</li>\n <li>Attends and contributes to online department meetings as needed, working with colleagues from other imprints to continue streamlining and aligning processes.</li>\n <li>Provides backup for department as needed.</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Qualifications</h2>\n<ul>\n <li>A minimum of 2 years of prior production editorial work experience. Prior experience in <strong>trade book publishing</strong> strongly preferred.</li>\n <li>Works comfortably with basic computer programs, including Tracked Changes in Word and the commenting tools in Adobe Acrobat.</li>\n <li>Solid copyediting and proofreading skills; knowledge of industry standards, including the <em>Chicago Manual of Style.</em></li>\n <li>Exceptional organization skills and attention to detail.</li>\n <li>Ability to set priorities under pressure.</li>\n <li>Comfortable working within a digital workflow system.</li>\n <li>Clear, conscientious, and collaborative communication skills, both verbal and written.</li>\n <li>College degree or equivalent work experience.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>About HarperCollins Canada and Harlequin</p>\n<p>Harlequin is a leading publisher of commercial fiction and narrative nonfiction.
