About this Role Quanta Telecommunication Solutions (QTS) is seeking a Route Field Technician to support a major long haul and middle mile fiber network from initial construction through long-term operations and maintenance. This unique role begins during the construction phase in a quality assurance and field validation capacity, working directly alongside construction crews to verify route integrity, installation quality, testing results, and asset documentation. Once construction is complete and the route is placed into service, the position transitions into an operations-focused role responsible for route maintenance, outage response, locate coordination, and long-term asset integrity. The goal is to develop deep route knowledge during construction so the technician becomes the long-term owner and steward of the network. Louisiana Route : Leesville > Alexandria > Monroe What You'll Do Support quality assurance activities during construction by verifying route assets, underground installations, splice locations, testing results, and as-built documentation Conduct field inspections and route walks to validate construction quality, route accuracy, and compliance with project requirements Document deficiencies, maintain route records, and support turnover and customer acceptance activities Perform fiber testing, OTDR verification, splice inspections, and route integrity assessments Serve as the assigned route technician following project turnover, supporting maintenance, inspections, and ongoing network reliability Respond to outages, fiber cuts, and emergency restoration events while supporting customer SLA requirements Coordinate locate tickets, route patrols, preventative maintenance activities, and right-of-way condition monitoring Maintain route documentation, asset records, splice matrices, and operational reporting requirements Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying recurring issues, route risks, and reliability concerns What You'll Bring High school diploma or equivalent Minimum 3 years of experience in OSP fiber construction, fiber maintenance, quality assurance, or related telecommunications environments Working knowledge of underground fiber construction methods including conduit, HDD, direct bury, and route infrastructure Experience reading construction drawings, splice diagrams, KMZ files, and as-built documentation Hands-on experience with fusion splicing, OTDR testing, and fiber troubleshooting Familiarity with handholes, vaults, splice enclosures, route markers, and standard OSP infrastructure Experience with high-count fiber systems (144-count and above) including ribbon fiber preferred Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn mobile inspection, ticketing, and GIS platforms Strong organizational, documentation, and problem-solving skills Ability to work independently across geographically dispersed route segments Valid driver’s license and ability to pass DOT physical, drug screen, and background check Work Conditions Work is performed most frequently outdoors in weather conditions that vary from sub-zero to heat above 90 degrees, in wet and dry conditions and in rural areas along the long haul route. Employee may perform duties around active underground utilities, energized and de-energized facilities, moving mechanical parts and roadway traffic. Work may be performed in confined spaces, including vaults and manholes. Some exposure to odors, gases, dust, and dirt may occur. The noise level in the work environment may range from moderate to loud. Ability to stand for long periods of time, constant rotation of movement, such as pushing, pulling, twisting, bending, reaching, and squatting. Ability to climb ladders and steep staircases. The position requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing for extended periods; use of hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 70 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Travel Requirements During the construction phase, daily travel along the active route is required and may include extended overnight travel as the build progresses. During the operations phase, travel is concentrated within the assigned route territory with occasional travel for training, support of other routes, or storm/emergency response.
