Description
Radiac Abrasives, Inc., a leading manufacturer of conventional bonded and super abrasives is looking for a Controls Engineer to join our Salem team. For more than 100 years, Radiac has delivered industry leading technology and quality products and service to the metal finishing industry. Radiac is a TYROLIT Company that is owned by the Swarovski Group which is headquartered in Schwaz, Austria.
We offer competitive wages and excellent insurance benefits including Medical, Prescription, Dental, Vision, Short and Long Term Disability, Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment, Health Savings Account, Flexible Spending Account, Accident, Critical Illness and Cancer Insurance plus a 401(k) retirement savings plan with company match after 30 days of employment. Additionally employees are eligible for PTO/Sick Pay and holiday pay. Bonus plans are based on company performance and prorated based on position start date.
Annual Salary Range for this position is $90,000 to $126,000.
Basic Function : As a Controls Engineer, you will design, develop, and maintain automated control systems that enhance the performance and efficiency of our manufacturing processes. As part of our engineering team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the seamless operation of equipment, optimizing production workflows, and supporting Radiac's commitment to quality and innovation.
Responsibilities:
Control System Design: Develop and implement automated control systems, including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, and other control devices to support production processes. Programming and Integration: Write, test, and debug PLC and HMI/SCADA programs, ensuring compatibility and seamless integration with existing systems. System Analysis: Evaluate manufacturing and operational processes to identify opportunities for automation, optimization, and efficiency improvements. Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Diagnose and resolve control system issues, minimizing downtime and ensuring reliable equipment performance. Testing and Validation: Conduct system simulations, FATs (Factory Acceptance Tests), and SATs (Site Acceptance Tests) to ensure proper functionality and performance. Documentation: Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including schematics, wiring diagrams, and user manuals for all control systems. Process Optimization: Collaborate with production and engineering teams to analyze processes and identify opportunities to enhance system efficiency and product quality. Compliance: Ensure control systems comply with applicable safety standards, industry regulations, and company policies. Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with the latest technologies and trends in automation and control systems, recommending innovative solutions to improve processes . Team Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including maintenance, production, and quality assurance, to support company goals. Skills:
Experience in the abrasives, ceramics, or related manufacturing industries. Knowledge of robotic systems, motion controls, or servo systems. Familiarity with Industry 4.0 and IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) technologies. CAD proficiency for designing control panels and layouts. Project management experience or certification. Experience and Education:
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a related field. Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in designing, programming, and troubleshooting automated control systems, preferably in a manufacturing environment. Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Honeywell, or similar platforms). Experience with HMI/SCADA systems and industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, Profibus, or Ethernet/IP. Strong understanding of motor controls, instrumentation, and electrical systems in industrial settings. Familiarity with safety and compliance standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 9001). Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to troubleshooting. Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment. Essential Physical Requirements:
20/20 vision required with or without correction. Ability to use hands 100% of the workday. Ability to stand and or walk 100% of the workday. Ability to bend, stoop or twist 50% of the workday. Ability to exert physical force to push, pull, lift or carry 50 pounds occasionally. Ability to work in shop environment.
