Description

Overview This position is located at William Beaumont Army Medical Center, Fort Bliss, TX. Fort Bliss is a United States Army post in New Mexico and Texas, with its headquarters in El Paso, Texas. Established in 1848, the fort was renamed in 1854 to honor Bvt. Lt. Colonel William W.S. Bliss, U.S. Army officer, private secretary and son-in-law of President Zachary Taylor. Fort Bliss has an area of about 1,700 square miles. It is the largest installation in FORSCOM (United States Army Forces Command) and second largest in the Army overall, the largest being the adjacent White Sands Missile Range. The portion of the post located in El Paso County, Texas, is a census-designated place with a population of 8,591 in the 2010 census. Fort Bliss provides the largest contiguous tract of restricted airspace in the Continental United States, used for missile and artillery training and testing, and at 992,000 acres has the largest maneuver area, ahead of the National Training Center, which has 642,000 acres. Since 1921, William Beaumont Army Medical Center (WBAMC) has provided care for Military Personnel and their eligible Family Members. WBAMC is one of two trauma centers in El Paso County and consists of twelve stories that cover more than a half-million square feet of floor space. WBAMC provides trauma care to the surrounding community and a full range of medical care to Fort Bliss, which supports over 19,000 troops and will grow to over 37,000 as it undergoes the largest post expansion in the Army. William Beaumont offers an array of programs in many medical disciplines and has close partnerships with higher learning institutions. The Medical Center is easily accessible and offers ample free parking, an exchange, dining facility, barber shop, cleaners, flower shop, chapel, credit union, gym, and more. The staff members of William Beaumont are closely-knit and consider each other as a unified team with the goal of providing excellent patient care. Responsibilities As a Clinical Psychologist (Behavioral Health) you will: 1. Assess and provide intervention for individuals with a wide range of chronic medical conditions, and behavioral health issues affecting medical conditions to include assessment and disposition of beneficiaries with acute and chronic risk. 2. Consult with primary care providers to select, approve, and document treatment priorities. 3. Educate clinic staff on the principles of primary care behavioral health via trainings and briefings. 4. Conduct outpatient group classes, stress management, relaxation training, assertive/social skills training, diabetes management, chronic pain, and brief related interventions. 5. Assess acute mental and behavioral medicine conditions in beneficiaries. 6. Provide individual and group treatment, using various evidence-based modalities to include problem focused interventions, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and psychoeducational classes. 7. Develop, and implement, professional development activities, coordinates departmental training on PCBH related topics. 8. Performs Other Duties as Assigned Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for Clinical Psychologist (Behavioral Health): Degree: Doctoral Degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting bio-psychosocial evaluations, providing individual and group therapy, and provides consultation to primary care and specialty clinic providers in a medical setting. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For the GS-13, you must meet the qualification requirement listed above. License: A current, active, valid, and unrestricted independent Clinical Psychologist licensure from a U.S. State, District of Columbia, Commonwealth, territory, or jurisdiction is required.1-year Postdoctoral Fellowship in Health Psychology preferred; but not required. Education: FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
