Description

JOB SUMMARY Under supervision of the Recreation Program Manager, the Youth Recreation Coordinator will educate youth in areas of physical fitness, health, sportsmanship, teamwork, and other self-esteem and character related values in the area of athletics. MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES This list is intended only to illustrate the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or is a logical assignment to the position. Responsible for assisting with the operations of the Recreation Department, including all resources (i.e. facility, gym, tournaments and classes) during assigned shift Supervises youth participants, providing guidance counseling, training and development, and disciplinary action as needed. Responsible for creating tournaments and leagues such as basketball, volley ball, pickle ball, flag football etc. Provide supervision of youth at all times who are using the program including off-site facilities/properties: HWC pool, basketball court, etc.; city/state parks; all field trip sites. Plans and organizes large youth sports programs, including providing written materials for timelines, fact sheets, coaches applications, and parent orientations. Provides support through leadership, planning and coordination of Muckleshoot Youth participants; interpreting and implementing policies for the Recreation Program; develops and implements program goals and objectives. Help in providing snacks, and transportation as needed. Teaches youth the basic fundamentals of sports, basic sports rules, and teamwork. Establishes a network of relationships with other Tribal departments and outside agencies that may provide services or resources to tribal youth. Monitor and maintain responsibility for children until they are turned over to a parent/guardian before leaving the field/gym. Provide proper first-aid when injuries occur. Notify Recreation Manager when first-aid kit needs replenishment. Fill out and turn in an accident report form to Recreation Manager the day of or after injury occurs that requires more than simple first-aid. Call 911 for severe injuries. Report any problems with fields, equipment, player behavior, parent behavior, or officials to Recreation Manager. Read and have all registration forms from players at every practice and game. Responsible for knowing existing medical conditions of players that are listed from their registration forms. Maintains program vehicles, mileage logs; reports any damage/maintenance repairs as needed. Maintains program equipment/supplies; reports any damage/maintenance repairs as needed. Communicate program information to parents and players both regularly and as-needed via telephone, email, cell phone, etc.; abide by code of conduct. Prepare pre-season to post-season calendars and training schedules. Because of the Tribe’s commitment to community service and the well-being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities. EDUCATION - EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION Required: Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent and two (2) years related experience working in a recreation, physical education, health/fitness, or youth programs is required. Preferred: Experience working with Native Americans and/or within a Tribal community. Early childhood or child-development education/certification. SPECIFIC SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR POSITION Skilled in: Supervisory techniques and practices to include managing, scheduling, assigning, coordinating, and monitoring work of others; motivational techniques; communicating effectively verbally and in writing; listening effectively; observing reactions/interactions of others; problem-solving; conflict resolution; evaluating options and implementing solutions; using a computer and standard office equipment. Knowledge of : Physical education curriculum, including team sports and rules of games; the English language including composition and grammar; methods of teaching and instruction for individuals and groups; laws and government regulations; human behavior and performance; learning and motivation; Native American culture and history. Ability to: Maintain confidentiality; maintain a positive attitude and work ethic; effectively communicate information and ideas, both written and verbal; comprehend information, both written and verbal; form culturally competent, non-judgmental, supportive and empowering relationships with youth; gather and interpret data, reach logical conclusions, and present findings and recommendations; use independent judgment. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The working conditions described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this class. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk and stand; use hands to operate, finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms; lift carry and/or push/pull up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet. Licenses or Certifications Required Current and valid Washington state driver’s license, First Aid / CPR certification, and Food Handlers permit are required.
