Overview
Under the direction and guidance of the Service Director and Sr. Director of Clinical Services, the Part-Time Clinical Assessor is responsible for conducting comprehensive behavioral health assessments and determining service eligibility and treatment recommendations for individuals referred for services. This role supports timely access to care through completion of diagnostic evaluations, psychosocial assessments, risk screenings, and coordination with referral sources, individuals, families, and community partners. The Clinical Assessor ensures all assessments and recommendations are completed in accordance with organizational policies, Medicaid requirements, licensing standards, and professional ethical guidelines.
All work is performed within a systems-based and trauma-informed framework with strong collaboration across St. Joseph’s Villa programs and community providers, in alignment with the organization’s mission, values, and guiding principles.
SERVICE SPECIFIC PROGRAMMING
Community Based Services (IIH, Community Stabilization, Day Treatment School Based)
IIH (Intensive In-Home) – Serves children ages 5–17 who are at risk of out-of-home placement due to significant behavioral or mental health needs.
24-hour emergency response system, including evenings and weekends
Family-focused behavioral interventions and support
Individual and family counseling
Coordination with schools, providers, and community resources
Person-centered and trauma-informed treatment approaches
Community Stabilization – Serves individuals ages 5 through adulthood experiencing a mental health crisis or co-occurring mental health/developmental disability needs.
Day Treatment School Based – Serves children ages 5–17 with significant mental health needs meeting Medicaid eligibility criteria.
Coordination with families, schools, and external providers
Trauma-informed and systems-based interventions
Administration and interpretation of standardized assessment tools as appropriate
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Clinical Assessment & Service Coordination
Reviews and interprets referral information from internal and external sources including schools, physicians, hospitals, community agencies, and families.
Conducts comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments, diagnostic interviews, mental health screenings, and risk assessments to determine medical necessity and appropriate levels of care.
Completes service eligibility determinations and provides recommendations for treatment and service placement.
Collaborates with individuals, families, and referral sources to support continuity of care and timely access to services.
Maintains accurate and timely documentation in compliance with Medicaid, licensing, accreditation, and organizational standards.
Provides crisis assessment and support as needed.
Coordinates referrals to appropriate Villa and community-based services.
Communicates assessment outcomes and recommendations to treatment teams and referral partners.
Participates in multidisciplinary team meetings and case consultations as appropriate.
Compliance & Documentation
Maintains all required assessment and client service documentation in accordance with organizational, state, and federal requirements.
Ensures confidentiality of all client information in compliance with HIPAA and professional ethical standards.
Participates in quality assurance activities including file reviews and compliance monitoring.
Reports suspected abuse, neglect, or critical incidents in accordance with policy and legal requirements.
General Responsibilities
Demonstrates professionalism and collaboration in all interactions with clients, families, staff, and community partners.
Maintains knowledge of current behavioral health practices, Medicaid regulations, and community resources.
Participates in required trainings and professional development activities.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s Degree in a human services-related field required.
Must be licensed or license-eligible in the state of Virginia (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, Resident, or Supervisee status preferred).
Experience conducting psychosocial assessments, diagnostic evaluations, and risk assessments preferred.
Knowledge of trauma-informed care, family systems, and behavioral health service delivery.
Strong verbal and written communication skills with excellent documentation abilities.
Experience with Medicaid documentation and behavioral health services preferred.
Ability to collaborate effectively with families, referral sources, schools, and community agencies.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and electronic health record systems.
Valid Virginia driver’s license with satisfactory driving record preferred.
Clinician Levels
Clinician I: Completed Master’s Degree in a human services-related field.
Clinician II: License-eligible in the state of Virginia and actively receiving supervision toward licensure.
Clinician III: Fully licensed in the state of Virginia (LCSW, LPC, LMFT, etc.).
