Position Summary :
This is a highly strategic position requiring demonstrated experience in designing, developing, and implementing safety policies, procedures, and long -term safety programs that support organizational growth and regulatory compliance. The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager works in close partnership with the assigned Regional Office and formally reports to the Regional Safety Director. Success in this role requires exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust, influence behavior, and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization. While the EHS Manager provides ongoing guidance, training, and support to field personnel and job sites, they are not stationed onsite daily and must be able to manage safety performance and engagement across multiple locations through structured visits, proactive communication, and strong relationship-building. The EHS Manager’s primary responsibility will be to promote and support MEI’s accident and injury-free safety initiatives, programs, and policies for an assigned regional office or geographical area. Will proactively work to minimize risk of personal injury, mitigate the impact on resources and equipment, complete required reporting, and investigate near-misses, accidents, or injuries, as necessary.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities :
Proactively identifies, develops, executes, and maintains all EHS policies, guidelines, procedures, and programs related to and in support of MEI’s safety initiatives, culture, regulatory changes, and business growth. Conduct or coordinate worker training regarding safety and safety-related programs, use of safety equipment and PPEs, and support MEI, customer, and regulatory or required training (maybe site specific: fall protection, confined space, forklift and powered vehicle certification, etc.). Must stay consistent and updated with all regulatory changes in the EHS field both federal and state specific. Ideally have experience managing safety for large scale projects like mass Data Center build outs or Confidential Contracts with Hazardous Materials. Oversee safety staff of estimated 4-6 direct reports. Provide technical and administrative support in areas such as design-in-safety, risk assessment, job hazard analysis, incident investigation and resolution; aid in the suggestion or development of EHS systems and assist with integrating EHS practices into operational processes. Work collectively with Incident Review Board (IRB) and site management to manage all incidents and accident cases through investigations and root cause analysis; may work directly with Occupational Health clinics and Insurance carriers for return-to-work programs or providing job-related information. Manage site incident prevention program (SIPPS), hot-work permits, confined space, HAZCOM, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and other applicable safety programs, data, or permits. Conduct routine site safety audits of all equipment, materials, work practices, and standard operating procedures. Oversee daily safety audits; review and approve pre-task plans and job hazard analyses (JHAs). Conduct routine inspections and evaluate the environment, equipment and processes in all areas where work is performed to ensure compliance with government safety regulations, industry standards, and MEI requirements. Develop and maintain an On-the-Job-Injury (OJI) protocol to include full injury claims management processes, including communications with Workers Comp surety (as necessary), injured employee, occupational medicine facility (or on -site first aid/nurse facility) and/or treating specialist(s) if necessary. Prepares site-safety administrative recordkeeping and other administrative tasks as needed, such as EHS meetings, reports, OSH logs, Incident Review Board (IRB) reports, and audits. Address and document all safety violations by MEI personnel immediately. Develop and maintain accident - prevention and loss - control systems and programs that are appropriate for the region and encourage reporting of incidents and fosters safety-minded behaviors. Identify and appraise conditions which could produce accidents or injuries; evaluate the extent and scope of potential resulting injuries and work proactively to mitigate. Compiles, analyzes, and interprets statistical data related to exposure factors concerning occupational illnesses, accidents, or certain environmental factors and prepares related reports. Develop and maintain positive relationships with outside firms and organizations that include vendors, OSHA, fire/police departments, etc. Perform regular and predictable work; and perform work during scheduled and and/or agreed upon times. Complete all other tasks as necessary and assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Experience, Skills, and Education) :
Bachelor of Science degree in occupational safety, industrial relations, construction management, or related field. Safety related professional certification helpful but not required. Minimum of seven (7) years of verifiable EHS experience in management or role with progressive responsibilities; experience with a multi -site and multi -state organization highly preferred. Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory/management experience. Highly preferred qualifications are an OSHA 510, and an CHST, ASP, or CSP. Have a detailed understanding of related laws and regulations (OSHA, workers comp., etc.) and site -specific (customer or MEI) safety guidelines; must have the ability to advise others on applicable regulations. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written), with the ability to disseminate information across all levels of staff. Must be self-directed, possess good time management skills, and perform safety -related tasks with required levels of urgency. Advanced knowledge of MS Office (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint), proficiency with Excel or similar software necessary; able to learn new software quickly. Bilingual in English / Spanish helpful but not required. Ability to think critically and have sound judgement and decision-making skills; able to decide or problem-solve when information is insufficient. Ability to work in a clean room environment
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions :
This position will frequently perform physical, hands - on work. An EHS Manager must be able to perform General Physical Activities — activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials up to 50 pounds. Must have the ability to work off the ground at varying heights, and not be affected by moving machinery or parts. Willing and able to work in a non -temperature - controlled environment and/or out doors in all types of weather, and over uneven ground or terrain. Work will also be performed in a normal, climate - controlled office environment, and will frequently work in a seated position, including work at a computer; manual dexterity necessary and wi ll use senses involving sight, touch, and audiological. Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds may be necessary.
