    "description": "<p>The <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Shop Mechanic</span> is responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems on trucks 10 years and newer, including Kenworth, Peterbilt, International, and Mack models. Key duties include engine, emissions, and electronic system repairs to ensure performance and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate has experience with modern truck technologies, strong problem-solving skills, and can operate heavy equipment safely while completing work accurately and efficiently.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Whitaker Construction</span>, founded in 1953, has over 70 years of experience in the heavy civil and underground utility construction industry. Whitaker, an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) company, has become one of the largest contractors in the intermountain area with more than 600 employees and nearly 70 crews. We perform sanitary sewer, storm drain, culinary water, irrigation, earthwork, roadway construction, dams, landfills, natural gas pipelines, industrial piping, and telecommunication projects primarily in Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Wyoming, Colorado, and Oregon.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Roles and Responsibilities: </span></p>\n<p><em>Including but not limited to the list below</em></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Inspect, diagnose, troubleshoot, and locate mechanical deficiencies on heavy equipment. Source and order parts as needed.</li>\n<li>Rebuild and maintain construction equipment, such as On Highway Trucks, Loaders, Backhoes, Trackhoes, Articulated Trucks, Scrapers, Motor Graders, Bulldozers, Rollers, Skid Steers, etc.</li>\n<li>Dismantle and reassemble equipment using hoists and hand tools.</li>\n<li>Examine parts for damage and/or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges.</li>\n<li>Remove, repair, or replace major components such as engines, transmissions, differentials, steering boxes, fuel injection pumps, etc.</li>\n<li>Repair or replace components of the cooling, braking, steering, suspension, exhaust, electrical, or hydraulic systems.</li>\n<li>Test overhauled equipment to ensure that it is operating efficiently.</li>\n<li>Perform welding, brazing, and fabricating, to modify parts, equipment, miscellaneous structures, and attachments.</li>\n<li>Complete all work orders (including warranty information) and time sheets in a legible, accurate, and timely manner.</li>\n<li>Take advantage of all opportunities to attend schools and training sessions in order to upgrade technical competence.</li>\n<li>Use computer to diagnose problems.</li>\n<li>Perform all work in accordance with established quality standards and safety procedures.</li>\n<li>Photograph equipment when necessary.</li>\n<li>Must keep shop equipment clean and in good working order.</li>\n<li>Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by supervisors.</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Skills and Qualifications:</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>High School Diploma or GED preferred. Any vocational training is strongly desired. </li>\n<li>Those with an education and/or work-related credential from a secondary or post-secondary educational system will be given preferred interview status (Precision Exams, NOCTE, etc.). </li>\n<li>A minimum of 5 years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic or a combination of education and experience. </li>\n<li>Class A or Class B CDL preferred. </li>\n<li>Must have a valid Medical Card per Department of Transportation (DOT) standard. </li>\n<li>Must be capable of managing and maintaining own tools and parts. </li>\n<li>Ability to operate a variety of equipment safely to diagnose, adjust, and repair malfunctions. </li>\n<li>Must be able to read, analyze, and comprehend schematics, technical manuals, technical drawings, etc.  </li>\n<li>Possess strong attention to detail. </li>\n<li>Proficient utilizing computers including Microsoft products, Smartphone, and iPad. </li>\n<li>Display a willing attitude to learn from others. </li>\n<li>Possess a strong sense of personal responsibility.  </li>\n<li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills. </li>\n<li>Ability to work under minimal supervision. </li>\n<li>Must be able to work effectively in a team environment. </li>\n<li>Reliable transportation to get to and from work. </li>\n</ul>\n<p><br><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Physical Requirements: </span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Able and willing to work long hours including day, night, weekend shifts as needed, and work outside of normal hours. </li>\n<li>Able to walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel, crouch, and lift up to 60 pounds frequently. </li>\n<li>Able to work in outside environments being subjected to weather changes, noise, vibrations, and job hazards. </li>\n<li>Ability to do physical labor and other strenuous physical tasks.</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Whitaker Construction offers an exceptional benefits package including: </span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).
