Description

The Third Judicial District Attorney's Office is seeking an experienced, innovative, and highly motivated communications professional to serve as its Public Information Officer (PIO). This senior staff position serves as the principle public information, communications, media relations as the senior point of contact and with the District Attorney plays a critical role in promoting transparency, public trust, and community engagement. Reporting directly to the District Attorney, the PIO serves as the Office's spokesperson and primary liaison to the media, community organizations, governmental agencies, and the public. The position is responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies, managing media relations, overseeing social media and website content, coordinating public outreach initiatives, and assisting with Inspection of Public Records Act (IPRA) requests. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Serve as the Office's primary media contact and spokesperson. • Develop and distribute press releases, media advisories, newsletters, public statements, and other communications. • Coordinate media inquiries and interview requests involving the District Attorney and Office personnel. • Manage and maintain the Office's website and social media platforms. • Develop communication strategies to increase public awareness of Office services, programs, and initiatives. • Coordinate public outreach efforts and community engagement activities. • Assist with crisis communications and messaging related to high-profile criminal matters and public safety concerns. • Assists with Inspection of Public Records Act (IPRA) requests. • Work collaboratively with attorneys, investigators, victim-witness personnel, law enforcement agencies, and community stakeholders. • Undertake and completes special projects assigned by the District Attorney. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Public Administration, Marketing, Information Technology or a related field, plus four (4) years of related professional experience; or any combination of education and experience totaling at least six (6) years in a related field. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS • Master's degree in a related field. • Experience working within a prosecutorial agency, law enforcement agency, court system, or governmental organization. • Knowledgeable of public records requests under the New Mexico Inspection of Public Records Act (IPRA) or similar public records laws. • Experience managing websites, social media platforms, and public-facing communication programs. • Experience in media relations, public affairs, and strategic communications.
