Description

Glenlyon Norfolk School (GNS) is an independent JK to Grade 12 International Baccalaureate (IB) and Round Square day and boarding school located on two campuses in Victoria, BC, Canada. At GNS, we provide an exceptional educational experience for students from age three to Grade 12, emphasizing robust academics, healthy social and emotional development, and inquiry-based, student-centred learning within a supportive community. Guided by the IB framework, we foster creativity, critical thinking, and a love of learning that prepares students for success in school and beyond. In August 2026, GNS will proudly open Gryphon Manor — a beautiful heritage residence and the newest addition to our boutique boarding program. Gryphon Manor will serve as our second boarding house, joining Gryphon House, and expanding our capacity to provide a personalized residential experience. Our boarding program is intentionally small by design. Students are known, supported, and challenged within a close-knit community grounded in belonging, character development, and global citizenship. Gryphon Manor will build on this tradition while offering a distinctive residential environment that reflects the warmth, structure, and excellence that define GNS. We are seeking outstanding residential educators to join us in launching this exciting next chapter. House Parent(s) Live-in Position Approximately 10-12 hrs/week Start: August 2026 Position Overview The House Parent is a core member of the Gryphon boarding team, responsible for the day-to-day care, supervision, and well-being of boarding students. Working under the direction of the House Director and Senior House Parent, the House Parent supports the delivery of a high-quality boarding experience that integrates pastoral care, residential life, academic support, and student wellbeing. This role is vital in creating a safe, structured, and nurturing residential environment grounded in GNS’s values of Truth, Courage, Caring, Individuality, and Community. Through consistent presence, strong relationships, and clear expectations, the House Parent supports students’ social, emotional, and personal development, enabling them to thrive within the boarding community. For additional details, please review the job description. This is a live-in position and includes morning, evening, overnight, weekend, and on-call responsibilities on a rotational basis. What You’ll Bring We are seeking a mature, values-driven individual who believes in the transformative power of residential boarding and understands the developmental needs of adolescents. You are a confident relationship builder with strong intercultural competence, sound judgment, and the ability to balance structure and accountability with warmth. You foster belonging while maintaining professional boundaries, communicate clearly and collaboratively, and remain calm and decisive in complex situations. Experience in boarding, residential life, youth mentorship, education, counselling, athletics, or community leadership will be viewed as a strong asset. Current First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain) and a clear Criminal Record Check are required. A valid Class 5 driver’s license is also necessary. Our “Must Haves” You demonstrate integrity, discretion, and professionalism in all interactions and serve as a consistent, positive adult presence within the boarding house. Highly organized and dependable, you exercise sound independent judgment while working within established policies, routines, and expectations. You always put relationships first and approach conflict or behavioural concerns with calmness, fairness, and good judgment. You are committed to student safety, wellbeing, and inclusive community standards. You have a natural ability to connect with others, be tactful and diplomatic in your approach, and ultimately help our students do their best through truth and courage.  House Parents must be able to meet the scheduling demands of residential life, including evenings, weekends, overnights, and on-call responsibilities. Compensation and Accommodation Compensation includes accommodation and optional meals during the academic year, both provided as a taxable benefit. In addition, House Parents receive an annual stipend starting at $7,500, with scheduled increases in subsequent years of service in accordance with the school’s boarding compensation grid. Accommodation options include a self-contained one-bedroom apartment of approximately 400 square feet, best suited for an individual, or a larger one-bedroom apartment of approximately 1,150 square feet, ideally suited to a couple who are interested in serving jointly as House Parents. Interested candidates should submit a resume and cover letter indicating personal strengths and accomplishments  by Thursday, April 30, 2026. This posting will remain open until filled. It is the policy of Glenlyon Norfolk School to provide equal employment opportunities for all qualified persons. Additionally, we invite those who have demonstrated a commitment to upholding the values of equity, diversity and inclusion and who will assist us in expanding our capacity in this regard. To correct the conditions of disadvantage in employment in Canada, we encourage applications from members of groups that have been historically disadvantaged and marginalized. All qualified people are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents of Canada will be given priority. We thank all applicants who apply; however, after initial acknowledgment, only those selected for further consideration will be contacted. Glenlyon Norfolk School will only use and retain personal information for the purpose it was collected. Any personal information provided will be maintained in confidence.
