Description

Purpose: Under general supervision, the Mechanic II/Boom Inspector performs inspections, structural repairs, diagnostics, rebuilding, and testing of boom-mounted concrete pumping equipment to ensure structural integrity, quality, safety, and proper functionality of all units. Key Responsibilities: Analyze, diagnose, and troubleshoot equipment brought in for repair. Determine the most cost-effective repair method and make repair recommendations to the Production Manager or customer. Identify, gather, and install the appropriate parts needed for repairs. Connect hydraulic lines and fill systems with oil in preparation for testing. Prepare trucks for sub-frame assembly by disassembling, measuring, repositioning, installing parts, and reassembling units according to procedures. Test assembled parts and products to confirm they function properly and meet quality standards. Follow all workplace health and safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices. Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in good condition. Perform other reasonably similar or related duties as assigned. Perform welding repairs on structural members that include booms, outriggers, pedestals and all supporting structures, as per SAIE standard Weld using proper pre-heated welding rod Grind all welds notch free Conduct cleanup of work area Take photo documentation of discontinuity before and after repair and e-mail photos to engineering along with any other relevant documentation Perform a complete and thorough boom inspection Visually inspect all welded members for cracks or any other deformations. Use dye-penetrate or mag-partical test when in doubt Check all bearings, bushings, pins, gear lash and bearing tipping to make sure they are all within tolerance Frequent contact with customers to set up inspections and repair Make own travel arrangements Order parts for repairs when needed Provide technical help where needed Complete boom inspection and service reports as required Submit internal billing and expense reports in a timely manner Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent required. Formal training beyond high school, such as auto repair certification or associate degree, preferred. Minimum of 3 years of mechanical experience. Heavy mechanical equipment experience preferred. Familiarity with hydraulic, electrical, gas, and diesel systems. Ability to read blueprints, hydraulic schematics, and electrical schematics. Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills. Basic computer skills for looking up work instructions, tracking labor, and completing related tasks. Obtain welding certification by passing welding tests conducted by the Quality Control department Must have knowledge in American weld symbols Qualified to AWS D1.1 in positions and processes required Qualified to AWS Butt and Fillets 1G, 2F GMAW Qualified to GMAW, PC position and FCAW-PC Butts All welders must be capable of passing Jager Eye examination, annually Possess a high degree of interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal Computer savvy with proficiency in Microsoft Office products, SAP, and online applications
