Description JOB SUMMARY: The Area Coordinator for Residence Life & Housing will work collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff to envision and implement a dynamic residential program for up to 625 residential students who currently reside in either our first-year community in McNair Hall or in our upperclass communities located in Hudson Hall, Mirse Hall, Kneece Hall, Knox Hall, and Wesley Hall. In this live-in position, the Area Coordinator will serve as a supervisor, educator, resource referral agent, and administrator. The successful candidate will serve as a visible, active leader on campus committed to fostering a vibrant residential community characterized by an appreciation for inclusion, belongingness, and active involvement. They will apply knowledge of student development theory to the residential population in a way that encourages the students' academic, personal, and social transition to Columbia College. The Area Coordinator will supervise undergraduate Resident Assistants and serve as part of the Student Affairs team with involvement in programs and events sponsored by other departments in Student Affairs, as well as relevant institutional committees. Qualifications ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Supervise, train, and evaluate student staff. Directly supervise 9 to 10 Resident Assistants. Work with the Area Coordinator team to monitor the actions of the desk staff and operations. Serve on the on-call staff rotation schedule and crisis response team. Provide leadership in residence hall programming designed to create a community. Work collaboratively in planning and implementing programs and events. Make appropriate referrals to students with personal and/or academic issues. Respond proactively to student and parent concerns. Conduct mediation interventions with students in conflict, as needed. Engage students in the process of developing an academically and socially supportive community and addressing community issues as they arise. Conduct regular Health and Safety Inspections. Manage all aspects of the living environment including damage assessments, space reservations, storage, etc. Work closely with campus constituents to address facilities and safety issues. Adjudicate student conduct matters and have educational conversations. Successfully complete administrative assignments and tasks (i.e. submitting service requests, programming reports, etc.). Participate collaboratively in RA staff recruitment, selection, and training, the continuing room assignments process, new student orientation programs, and other large-scale processes. Conduct early alert check-in meetings with at risk students. Other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree required, with Master's degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs preferred. Previous work experience or involvement in Residence Life or Student Affairs is strongly preferred. Experience living and/or working in a multicultural college or university residence hall preferred. Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to make sound judgments and think critically about issues that arise. Ability to serve in an on-call rotation for a week at a time. Ability to live in an on campus lightly-furnished apartment. Leadership retains the discretion to add or change the duties of the position at any time. Directly supervise 9 to 10 Resident Assistants.</li>\r\n\t<li>Work with the Area Coordinator team to monitor the actions of the desk staff and operations.</li>\r\n\t<li>Serve on the on-call staff rotation schedule and crisis response team.</li>\r\n\t<li>Provide leadership in residence hall programming designed to create a community.</li>\r\n\t<li>Work collaboratively in planning and implementing programs and events.</li>\r\n\t<li>Make appropriate referrals to students with personal and/or academic issues.</li>\r\n\t<li>Respond proactively to student and parent concerns.</li>\r\n\t<li>Conduct mediation interventions with students in conflict, as needed.</li>\r\n\t<li>Engage students in the process of developing an academically and socially supportive community and addressing community issues as they arise.</li>\r\n\t<li>Conduct regular Health and Safety Inspections.</li>\r\n\t<li>Manage all aspects of the living environment including damage assessments, space reservations, storage, etc.</li>\r\n\t<li>Work closely with campus constituents to address facilities and safety issues.</li>\r\n\t<li>Adjudicate student conduct matters and have educational conversations.</li>\r\n\t<li>Successfully complete administrative assignments and tasks (i.e. submitting service requests, programming reports, etc.).</li>\r\n\t<li>Participate collaboratively in RA staff recruitment, selection, and training, the continuing room assignments process, new student orientation programs, and other large-scale processes.</li>\r\n\t<li>Conduct early alert check-in meetings with at risk students.</li>\r\n\t<li>Other duties as assigned.</li>\r\n</ol>\r\n\r\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:</strong></p>\r\n\r\n<ol>\r\n\t<li>Bachelor&#39;s degree required, with Master&#39;s degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs preferred.</li>\r\n\t<li>Previous work experience or involvement in Residence Life or Student Affairs is strongly preferred.</li>\r\n\t<li>Experience living and/or working in a multicultural college or university residence hall preferred.</li>\r\n\t<li>Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to make sound judgments and think critically about issues that arise.</li>\r\n\t<li>Ability to serve in an on-call rotation for a week at a time.</li>\r\n\t<li>Ability to live in an on campus lightly-furnished apartment.</li>\r\n</ol>\r\n\r\n<p>Leadership retains the discretion to add or change the duties of the position at any time.</p>\r\n\r\n<p>If interested in applying for this position, submit r&eacute;sum&eacute;, cover letter, the names and contact information of three professional references through the Columbia College website at https://www.columbiasc.edu/about/employment.&nbsp;</p>\r\n\r\n<p>If you have any additional questions regarding the position, please contact Mr. Ashton Peterson, Director of Residence Life &amp; Housing, via email at [email protected].</p>\r\n\r\n<p>Columbia College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges and is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
