Position Summary: ANSER is seeking a Nuclear Treaties Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support the Headquarters United States Air Force, Directorate of Strategic Deterrence and Nuclear Integration (AF/A10). In this role, you will provide technical, analytical, and policy support for the implementation of and compliance with international arms control treaties and agreements. You will serve as a primary advisor to Air Force leadership on nuclear treaty requirements, supporting policy development, compliance activities, and strategic engagement across the Department of the Air Force (DAF), Department of Defense (DoD), and interagency community. This position is full-time onsite within the National Capital Region, including the Pentagon and Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington, DC. Day to Day Responsibilities Serve as the primary point of contact and subject matter expert for Air Force nuclear treaty requirements, providing guidance on treaty implementation and compliance concepts and issues. Provide historical context, analysis of treaty implications, and recommendations on nuclear treaty matters to Air Force senior leaders and staff. Support implementation, training, and compliance activities for arms control agreements impacting Department of the Air Force operations. Research, review, and analyze policy and technical aspects of existing and proposed arms control treaties to inform implementation and compliance guidance. Draft, review, and coordinate Air Force position documents, including policy instructions, summaries, briefings, and responses to higher headquarters taskings. Support the development of Air Force positions within the Department of Defense, U.S. Government interagency processes, and international forums. Review and monitor Air Force acquisition programs and concepts of operation to ensure compliance with applicable treaties and agreements. Develop and deliver training materials, exercises, and courses to prepare Air Force personnel for treaty implementation and verification activities. Required Qualifications Active Top Secret security clearance with eligibility for Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI), Special Access Program (SAP), and Special Access Required (SAR). Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as international relations, national security studies, or similar. Minimum of 15 years of experience working with nuclear arms control treaties. Demonstrated expert knowledge of nuclear arms control concepts, objectives, and history. Strong understanding of Air Staff, Joint Staff (JS), and Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) structures and responsibilities related to New START Treaty (NST) requirements. Proven ability to brief recommendations and analysis effectively to audiences ranging from senior leaders to action officers. Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in international relations, national security studies, or a related field. Experience serving as a technical advisor on U.S. delegations for arms control negotiations or implementation bodies (e.g., Bilateral Consultative Commission (BCC), Joint Compliance and Inspection Commission (JCIC), Special Verification Commission (SVC)). Experience using Arms Control Enterprise System (ACES) and Information and Resources Support System (IRSS). Experience working with interagency partners such as the Department of State and the Defense Threat Reduction Agency on arms control policy and compliance issues. Experience serving as a national escort or inspector for on-site inspections under an arms control treaty.
