Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Our Capital Projects Group (CPG) Rapid Transit (RT) Program Delivery Group is seeking a Construction Health and Safety, Project Manager (Rapid Transit Program Delivery). The Project Manager will provide program level oversight of projects to ensure safety programs are delivered consistently and effectively within the projects throughout the lifecycle of a project, collaborate with Project Delivery Teams (PDT) to support the development of construction safety management plans, for the Rapid Transit Program and help to identify and mitigate safety risks throughout the delivery of assigned projects. This position reports to the Senior Manager, Construction Health and Safety – RT Program Delivery but will be working very closely with Project Delivery Teams and the Metrolinx Corporate Safety Team.
What will I be doing?
Support a safety culture and awareness by remaining up to date with safety information by organizing, participating in Safety Engagement Tours, and ensuring up to date training to provide a safe work/onsite environment to prevent workplace incidents and injuries for RT projects.
Support the analysis of construction activities and safety statistics to ensure work priorities / coordination of projects and ensure safe and efficient program delivery.
Support Metrolinx Corporate Safety in the review and formal auditing of safe work practices to ensure compliance with the relevant OHSA legislation, regulations and contract requirements.
Working with the team to protect Metrolinx from general corporate liability, exposure of the public to risks/hazards, and against impact to operations.
Provide insight/input into improvements/revisions to CPG RT’s construction health and safety plans working in collaboration with the Corporate Safety, Health and Safety Support Team and PDTs, Metrolinx Community Engagement, and other stakeholders where applicable.
Provide ongoing oversight, through conducting site Inspections and other observation measures to ensure on-site construction work conducted by external contractors for CPG construction projects is performed safely, in compliance with OHSA
Assess contractor compliance against the relevant OHSA legislation and contract requirements; identifying higher risk activities and ensuring the constructors are implementing mitigation procedures and solutions.
Assist in the successful delivery of Safety programs for large-scale transportation infrastructure projects, segments of linear infrastructure while working with internal and external partners to ensure requirements are meeting Metrolinx standards.
Work collaboratively with the PDT Health and Safety and Corporate Safety Team to receive guidance and support on the interpretation and application of CPG RT wide H&S policies, procedures, best practices; provide data/information/statistics on contractor health and safety performance metrics while reporting and auditing requirements/findings.
Provide supervision and technical direction to safety consultants, Construction Safety Officers, community engagement teams, and other personnel assigned to construction projects.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
Completion of a degree in Safety, Engineering, Architecture, or related discipline, or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
Demonstrated years of progressive experience in transit infrastructure planning, design, construction, construction supervision, construction safety, and administration of transit facilities and infrastructure.
Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) designation is an asset
A valid Ontario Class "G" driver's license is required.
Extensive experience in the safety requirements for heavy civil construction, underground facilities, tunnel construction, and construction within dense urban environments, including experience in requirements of Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7 and the Highway Traffic Act.
Supervisory principles and practices to provide leadership, supervision, direction, influence and motivation to Construction Safety Officers and construction/safety contractors.
Knowledge of and the interpretation and application of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and construction site and safety coordination best practices, procedures, processes and related legislation and regulations of complex infrastructure projects.
Excellent communication; both written and verbal, and leadership, and interpersonal skills.
Strong relationship management skills, ability to negotiate, consult with, facilitate, and liaise with stakeholders on sensitive or contentious issues.

This position reports to the Senior Manager, Construction Health and Safety – RT Program Delivery but will be working very closely with Project Delivery Teams and the Metrolinx Corporate Safety Team. \n</div>\n<div>\n \n</div>\n<div>\n <strong>What will I be doing?</strong>\n</div>\n<ul>\n <li>Support a safety culture and awareness by remaining up to date with safety information by organizing, participating in Safety Engagement Tours, and ensuring up to date training to provide a safe work/onsite environment to prevent workplace incidents and injuries for RT projects.</li>\n <li>Support the analysis of construction activities and safety statistics to ensure work priorities / coordination of projects and ensure safe and efficient program delivery. </li>\n <li>Support Metrolinx Corporate Safety in the review and formal auditing of safe work practices to ensure compliance with the relevant OHSA legislation, regulations and contract requirements.</li>\n <li>Working with the team to protect Metrolinx from general corporate liability, exposure of the public to risks/hazards, and against impact to operations.</li>\n <li>Provide insight/input into improvements/revisions to CPG RT’s construction health and safety plans working in collaboration with the Corporate Safety, Health and Safety Support Team and PDTs, Metrolinx Community Engagement, and other stakeholders where applicable.</li>\n <li>Provide ongoing oversight, through conducting site Inspections and other observation measures to ensure on-site construction work conducted by external contractors for CPG construction projects is performed safely, in compliance with OHSA</li>\n <li>Assess contractor compliance against the relevant OHSA legislation and contract requirements; identifying higher risk activities and ensuring the constructors are implementing mitigation procedures and solutions.</li>\n <li>Assist in the successful delivery of Safety programs for large-scale transportation infrastructure projects, segments of linear infrastructure while working with internal and external partners to ensure requirements are meeting Metrolinx standards. </li>\n <li>Work collaboratively with the PDT Health and Safety and Corporate Safety Team to receive guidance and support on the interpretation and application of CPG RT wide H&S policies, procedures, best practices; provide data/information/statistics on contractor health and safety performance metrics while reporting and auditing requirements/findings.</li>\n <li>Provide supervision and technical direction to safety consultants, Construction Safety Officers, community engagement teams, and other personnel assigned to construction projects.<br>\n </li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Completion of a degree in Safety, Engineering, Architecture, or related discipline, or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.</li>\n <li>Demonstrated years of progressive experience in transit infrastructure planning, design, construction, construction supervision, construction safety, and administration of transit facilities and infrastructure. </li>\n <li>Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) designation <i>is an asset</i></li>\n <li>A valid Ontario Class \"G\" driver's license is required.</li>\n <li>Extensive experience in the safety requirements for heavy civil construction, underground facilities, tunnel construction, and construction within dense urban environments, including experience in requirements of Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7 and the Highway Traffic Act. </li>\n <li>Supervisory principles and practices to provide leadership, supervision, direction, influence and motivation to Construction Safety Officers and construction/safety contractors.</li>\n <li>Knowledge of and the interpretation and application of the Occupational<i> Health & Safety Act</i> and construction site and safety coordination best practices, procedures, processes and related legislation and regulations of complex infrastructure projects.</li>\n <li>Excellent communication; both written and verbal, and leadership, and interpersonal skills.</li>\n <li>Strong relationship management skills, ability to negotiate, consult with, facilitate, and liaise with stakeholders on sensitive or contentious issues. </li>\n</ul>\n<p style=\"margin-left:1in\"> </p>\n<div>\n <strong>Don’t Meet Every Requirement? </strong>\n</div>\n<div>\n If you’re excited about working with Metrolinx but your past experience doesn’t quite align with every qualification of this posting, we encourage you to apply.
