    "ExternalDescriptionStr": "<div>\n Definition\n</div>\n<div>\n An employee in this class rides a school bus (as needed) on assigned route(s) and assists the Bus Driver with safety, movement, management, and care of students boarding the bus, leaving the bus, or being transported on it.&nbsp; The Bus Monitor will require students to conform to the rules and regulations established by the local Board of Education for the safety of students riding school buses.\n</div>\n<div>\n <br>\n</div>\n<div>\n Duties and Responsibilities\n</div>\n<div>\n •<span> </span>Lifts and carries students with disabilities on and off the bus according to their individual needs, if applicable.\n</div>\n<div>\n •<span> </span>Supervises student(s) as they board and leave bus and cross street.\n</div>\n<div>\n •<span> </span>Takes children into building and helps them find their way.\n</div>\n<div>\n •<span> </span>Learns and adapts to each student’s special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs, if applicable.\n</div>\n<div>\n •<span> </span>Manages student behavior and reports student discipline problems to appropriate administrator.\n</div>\n<div>\n •<span> </span>Becomes familiar with all routes to and from school campus to be of assistance to driver.\n</div>\n<div>\n •<span> </span>Supervises use of seat belts, harnesses, or car seats by students.\n</div>\n<div>\n •<span> </span>Makes certain that students are seated while bus is in motion.\n</div>\n<div>\n •<span> </span>Follows emergency procedures and helps driver administer first aid, if necessary.\n</div>\n<div>\n •<span> </span>Operates equipment according to established safety procedures.\n</div>\n<div>\n •<span> </span>Follows established procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, assisting students, etc.\n</div>\n<div>\n •<span> </span>Becomes familiar with and follows procedures established by transportation and/or Exceptional Children Department, if applicable.\n</div>\n<div>\n •<span> </span>Helps driver keep bus clean.\n</div>\n<div>\n •<span> </span>Assumes responsibility for performing the personal care required under the Individual Education Plan (I.E.P.) during the pick-up, transporting, and the unloading of students.\n</div>\n<div>\n •<span> </span>Maintains regular attendance.\n</div>\n<div>\n •<span> </span>Performs other related work as required.\n</div>\n<div>\n <br>\n</div>\n<div>\n Knowledge, Skills and Abilities\n</div>\n<div>\n •<span> </span>Good knowledge of care and discipline of students.\n</div>\n<div>\n •<span> </span>Considerable knowledge of safety regulations and standards for school buses.\n</div>\n<div>\n •<span> </span>Demonstrates patience and understanding.\n</div>\n<div>\n •<span> </span>Ability to maintain discipline of students assigned to ride the school bus.\n</div>\n<div>\n •<span> </span>Ability to deal patiently and effectively with students.\n</div>\n<div>\n •<span> </span>Ability to complete required reports.\n</div>\n<div>\n •<span> </span>Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.\n</div>\n<div>\n •<span> </span>Ability to exercise tact and courtesy in contact with parents/guardians or students and with school personnel.\n</div>\n<div>\n •<span> </span>Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.\n</div>\n<div>\n •<span> </span>Understanding of and compassion for students with disabilities, if applicable.\n</div>\n<div>\n <br>\n</div>\n<div>\n Physical Requirements&nbsp;\n</div>\n<div>\n •<span> </span>Must be able to exert up to 75 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.&nbsp;\n</div>\n<div>\n •<span> </span>Requires ability to read correspondence, reports, instructions, etc.&nbsp;
