A completed application will include 1) a cover letter describing strengths and qualifications for the position, 2) a CV , 3) n ames and contact information for three references , 4) a s tatement of teaching philosophy , 5) a research statement , and 6) official academic transcripts . Please limit the teaching philosophy and research statements to no more than two pages in length per statement. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without the need for visa sponsorship. The University will not sponsor applicants for work visas (e.g., H-1B). Job Summary The School of Social Work at the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) invites applicants for three, full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor positions beginning August 2026. These 9-month faculty positions will be based in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, while some teaching assignments may take place on our Gulf Park campus in Long Beach, Mississippi.These positions will teach in both the undergraduate and graduate programs. Tenure-track faculty are expected to engage in an active research agenda that contributes to the profession, and support the School, College, and University through service. The selected candidate will become part of a faculty dedicated to developing highly skilled graduates equipped to serve all communities, spanning rural, urban, and suburban areas in the Gulf-South region. We create dynamic classrooms where critical thinking thrives through hands-on, student-centered learning. Faculty members maintain active research programs in childhood obesity, geriatric workforce development, human trafficking, integrated health, and reproductive justice while providing training in evidence-based practices. Faculty are expected to teach in both the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and Master of Social Work (MSW) programs. The Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredits both degree programs. More information about our school can be found at https://www.usm.edu/social-work Primary Duties and Responsibilities Provide instruction in both the BSW and MSW programs. Maintain an active research/scholarship agenda. Pursue external funding that supports scholarship. Engage in service to the School, university, community, and field of social work. Mentor students in their academic, research, and service interests. Performs other duties as assigned.
