Description

Department Overview OHSU Family Medicine is part of OHSU School of Medicine. OHSU Family Medicine focuses on family health. We provide preventive, primary and specialty care for you, your children, your spouse, your parents and your grandparents. We provide all that family medicine has to offer - from maternity care through geriatrics. Our clinics are home to more than 120,000 patients every year, but despite the large number, our physicians, nurses and other clinic staff know their patients - and their families - by name. The Clinical Associate APP delivers care aligned with a defined scope of practice in Family Medicine, with work expectations operationalized through departmental workflows, productivity standards, and performance expectations consistent with the CBA and institutional policies. This role is structured to meet contract-defined work expectations of 1792 hours per year, inclusive of daytime (AM, PM and Evening sessions) coverage Monday - Sunday, aligned with the clinical coverage model and patient care needs of the service. The Clinical Associate APP will participate in departmental scheduling processes, including weekends, holidays and call responsibilities, with scheduling practices aligned to contract provisions, equitable distribution of coverage, and maintenance of safe, consistent clinical operations. The mission of the Department of Family Medicine’s Float Program is to cover provider shortages at our Family Medicine practices when providers depart or go on leave. Coverage can be for one or more months at a time, depending on need. Coverage model varies based on clinical need and may include coverage of a PCP’s panel, coverage for acute patient needs, or a combination of panel and acute need coverage. Schedule and location of coverage will be assigned based on need and in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement (CBA). OHSU Family Medicine strongly supports the comprehensive scope to provide the highest level of care for our community. The clinical work includes but not limited to all ages of life including newborn to end of life and supporting patients with substance use disorder including medication-assisted treatment and gender affirming care. OHSU embraces diversity and welcomes all patients. Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) is a nationally prominent research university and Oregon’s only public academic health center. The department of Family Medicine has been consistently ranked among the top family medicine departments in the country. The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service. Function/Duties of Position Clinical Activities ( not assigned administrative, education, or research FTE ): Direct Location: Assigned location to include any of DFM’s OHSU-facing primary care locations. Coverage assignment is made in accordance with the CBA and based on patient need Billable patient encounters in the ambulatory setting (face to face), virtual visits (if that meets the clinics need), and phone visit or other billable electronic visits Includes documentation of the visit. Patient population- All ages and demographics. Independent practice with wRVU and visit expectations. Minimum visit expectation: 8 visits per hour Minimum wRVU expectation: 3.8 wRVU per hour Clinical coverage requirement includes days (AM, PM and EVE), weekends, holidays, and call. Department specific activities: include care in the clinical setting and may include care delivered in patients homes or at care facilities or other locations with approved contracts and off campus authorizations. Indirect Indirect patient care includes activities supporting direct patient care, including but not limited to; EPIC in-basket management/coverage MyChart messages Reviewing results Phone calls Patient care coordination Caseload management Court or legal appearances related to work cases (e.g., subpoenas), Care conferences Work group huddles Non-RVU generating patient care Non-billable patient care Taking calls (examples: triage, back up triage call, clinic support calls, lab and imaging results, leadership calls, etc.) Filling gaps created by lack of staff support (e.g., clinicians on leave, unfilled clinical positions, or lack of MA, RN, PAS, social work, case management, residents, fellows, physicians, etc.). Meetings and Huddles Clinic based work (coverage, support, working with clinical team, answering questions, etc) Required Qualifications Current Nurse Practitioner license for the state of Oregon, State of Oregon Nurse Practitioner Prescriptive Privileges, and DEA certification. Previous work experience in primary care is preferred. Experience in either primary care or urgent/immediate care is required. Additional Details This position also comes with great benefits!
