Description
Are you passionate about human space exploration, understanding the origins of the universe, and working with a passionate and diverse team to make a difference? If you are, we need you!
We need your talent, teamwork, and energy to help us achieve great things that inspire people all over the globe. We need you to bring creative ideas and diverse backgrounds to help us envision, shape, and deliver systems that will enable the exploration of space while benefiting people here on Earth. We are excited about what we do, and we need you on our team as we take on exciting challenges for NASA’s pursuits in deep space exploration. As NASA’s largest engineering solutions provider working together with NASA at centers across the United States.
We are seeking a Project Engineer to support ongoing and future work for the VIPER lunar rover team to join the JETSII Contract with Barrios Technologies, a teammate company. This role will help execute near-term vehicle test, transportation, and integration activities while also supporting growth into future operations development, staffing, training, and mission readiness efforts.
This position is suited for an engineer who can work across hardware integration, test planning and execution, logistics coordination, procedure development, and cross-functional team alignment. The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on engineering judgment, is comfortable operating in a dynamic project environment, and can grow with the program as VIPER transitions from current vehicle activities into expanded operational readiness and mission execution support.
** We are actively searching for qualified candidates for this potential opening; however, we do not have assurance at this time when the position will be finalized and opened. Because we have strong reason to believe the position will be approved soon, we are proceeding with identifying qualified candidates and conducting interviews. **
Key Responsibilities:
Support vehicle test and transportation activities associated with transition out of storage, post-storage checkout, compatibility testing, shipment preparation, delivery, and integrated test campaigns. Coordinate with engineering, integration and test, operations, logistics, quality, safety, and project stakeholders to plan and execute assigned work. Develop, update, and maintain engineering products such as work packages, procedures, test plans, readiness documentation, status products, and closeout materials. Help identify, track, and resolve technical, schedule, integration, and execution issues affecting vehicle and ground activities. Support pre-test, test, and post-test activities, including pathfinding, rehearsals, configuration coordination, anomaly resolution, and lessons learned capture. Assist with transportation and handling planning for vehicle, subsystem, or associated ground support equipment moves. Contribute to integrated test readiness and mission support planning for vehicle-level and mated system activities. Support development of operational concepts, console roles, processes, and training material needed to onboard and prepare future operations personnel. Provide day-to-day coordination and clear communication across multiple organizations to ensure work remains aligned to program priorities, milestones, and mission objectives. Grow into broader responsibilities supporting future operations staffing, certification, and surface mission readiness.
