    "description": "<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\"><span>Position Description:</span></span><span> The Program Staff will assist with day to day operations and maintain a safe environment for the men and women accessing the emergency shelter at Lighthouse Mission Ministry’s (LMM’s) Base Camp. Shelter staff respond to emergencies, offer emotional and spiritual support to guests, implement and oversee check-in, house meetings, and lead devotionals as needed. Hear from our staff <a href=\"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wpgznb52hdY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Why We Do What We Do</a> or learn more about <a href=\"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUYFr_UsvBQ&amp;t=3s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Healing Homelessness in Bellingham</a>.</span></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Responsibilities:</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Maintain timely and accurate documentation regarding daily shelter events, incident reports, and mandatory reporting.</li>\n<li>Oversee proper handling of guest communication, including phone messages.</li>\n<li>Oversee reception functions including phones, security cameras, and greeting, ensuring the highest level of customer service at the Base Camp.</li>\n<li>Monitor all safety and fire hazards, as well as guest activity.</li>\n<li>Fulfill the guests' requests for articles of clothing, hygiene supplies, and etc.</li>\n<li>Maintain a positive, pleasant, and professional attitude. Work with other staff to model transparent and supportive Christian relationships, which will serve as a leadership example for shelter guests.</li>\n<li>Provide and facilitate an environment that relationally shares with guests the full range of resources available to assist them, particularly further LMM programming, in overcoming the conditions that cause homelessness.</li>\n<li>Oversee, encourage and train volunteers and interns as needed.</li>\n<li>Embrace and use LMM's grace-based accountability philosophy.</li>\n<li>Any other job-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.<br></li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Organizational Relationships:</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Works alongside a team of Shelter Operations staff, volunteers and interns.</li>\n<li>Represents LMM, specifically Base Camp, to other social service agencies.</li>\n<li>Reports directly to the Director of Shelter Operations.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Qualifications:</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Have knowledge of and preferably experience with issues of homelessness, poverty, addiction, domestic violence and recovery.<br></li>\n<li>A passion for serving Jesus and making the Gospel known through mercy ministry. The successful candidate will have an active church/prayer life and be in agreement with the LMM Statement of Faith and Life &amp; Personal Covenant.<br></li>\n<li>Able to use judgment to make independent decisions.</li>\n<li>Ability to lead Christian devotions and prayer in a group setting</li>\n<li>Sensitivity to cultural diversity in all forms is required.</li>\n<li><span>Ability to successfully pass pre-employment criminal background screenings and comply with our drug-free workplace policies.</span></li>\n<li>High boundary setting and self-reflection skills.</li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Basic motivational interviewing skills preferred.</li>\n<li>Ability to remain awake and alert for duration of scheduled shift.</li>\n<li>Ability to establish and maintain rapport with program guests and volunteers.</li>\n<li>Ability to remain calm and calm others in an emergency and/or confrontational situations.</li>\n<li>Ability to interact effectively as a team member and independently with LMM staff and with a diverse client base.</li>\n<li>Effective interpersonal communication skills--both written and oral--for communication with co-workers, men and women staying as guests and outside agencies.</li>\n<li>Ability to use MS Word, Excel, Gmail, and Google Calendar.</li>\n<li>High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent education/ experience.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:</span></p>\n<p>(With or without reasonable accommodation)</p>\n<ul>\n<li>Intermittent high stress environment</li>\n<li>Standing 40%; walking 30%; sitting 30%; ability to walk up and down stairs</li>\n<li>Medium to heavy lifting, up to 35 lbs</li>\n<li>Possible exposure to a variety of illnesses</li>\n<li>Both inside and outside activities regardless of weather</li>\n<li>Ability to rapidly deal with emergency situations</li>\n<li>Ability to report as regularly scheduled to the work-site</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>As an outreach of Lighthouse Mission Ministries, successful applicants will show a desire to end spiritual, economic, physical and social poverties with an aim toward restored identities and recovered vocations for the purpose of a healthy relationship with God, each other and the world.
