Overview & Position Summary
This role provides introductory-level support to the land team while gaining exposure to the processes involved in evaluating, entitling, and developing residential communities. The position works under direct supervision and follows established procedures to support day-to-day tasks and departmental operations. The role is designed to encourage learning, skill-building, and hands-on experience within a homebuilding environment, contributing to team objectives while supporting professional development.
Primary Responsibilities
Assist with collecting, organizing, and maintaining project documentation, reports, and files.
Prepare basic maps, exhibits, and summaries to support land evaluation, planning, or development activities.
Conduct routine data entry, updates, and administrative support for project tracking tools and databases.
Support team members by gathering information from internal systems, consultants, or municipal sources.
Assist with reviewing plans, permits, or reports under the guidance of project staff.
Participate in field visits to observe site conditions, project progress, and land development activities.
Support meeting preparation, including assembling materials, taking notes, and distributing information.
Follow well-established procedures and instructions to complete assigned tasks accurately and on time.
Engage in learning opportunities, training sessions, and coaching to build knowledge of land development and acquisition processes.
Education & Experience
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Up to 1 year of work experience, including internships, part-time work, or related exposure.
Preferred:
Enrollment in or recent completion of a program in real estate, engineering, planning, geography, construction management, or a related field.
Familiarity with basic office software or mapping tools.
Skills & Competencies
Ability to follow instructions and established procedures with attention to detail.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage simple tasks with accuracy.
Basic communication skills for interacting with team members and requesting or providing information.
Willingness to learn new concepts and develop foundational knowledge of land processes.
Basic proficiency with office software (e.g., spreadsheets, word processing).
Curiosity and openness to learning about homebuilding, land development, or related fields.
Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
Time management skills to complete assigned tasks on schedule.
Positive attitude and eagerness to build skills and gain experience.
Working Conditions
Work primarily occurs in a general office environment with occasional field visits to active or planned development sites. Field exposure may include uneven terrain, dust, noise, and varying weather conditions. Limited local travel may be required to attend meetings, visit job sites, or gather project information. Typical work follows a standard schedule, with flexibility based on academic or program requirements.
Physical Requirements
Ability to walk short distances over uneven or undeveloped terrain during site visits.
Ability to lift and carry materials or documents up to 20 pounds.
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods during office work or meetings.
Ability to perform basic bending, reaching, or movement associated with file handling or field observation.
Ability to use standard office equipment and software.
Compensation
Base Salary: $20.00 - $25.00/hr
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
