Description
JOB SUMMARY
This Project Manager role for the Regeneration department strengthens Burning Man Project’s capacity to design, test, track and share regenerative systems by blending departmental administration with high-level project oversight. This role serves as the lead in developing processes and managing sustainability pilots that unite technical operations and innovation with cultural impact in Black Rock City.
This is a full-time role based in either the San Francisco or Reno office. In office attendance is expected 3 days per week. In addition, there are responsibilities in Black Rock City for a period of 3-4 weeks, and in other locations as needed. Working hours will be based on Pacific Time.
The deadline to apply for this role is 5:00 pm Pacific on June 12th, 2026.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Project Development and Management (30%) Lead designing frameworks and evaluation processes for the testing of emerging technologies in Black Rock City. Evaluate and scope opportunities with the Director of Regeneration and Event Operations teams, and recommend pilot projects. Develop project briefs and plans, ensuring project management processes and documentation meet organizational standards. Foster engagement among staff, partners and the community to align technical results with Burning Man culture.
Project Tracking & Operational Administration (30%) Drive Asana integration and SOP roadmap implementation to improve departmental coordination on the Net Zero BRC portfolio supported by the Regeneration Department. Maintain departmental trackers and files in Google Drive for version control and accessibility. Support working group scheduling, meeting agenda production, and post meeting follow-up. Manage portfolio-level finance trackers and provide insights to inform departmental planning. Standardize templates and SOPs to ensure cohesion across all working groups.
Pre-Event & On-Ground Event Logistics (20%) Coordinate deployment, planning and on-playa logistics, including contract negotiations, resource requests and tracking. Support field execution of regenerative projects, ensuring compliance, safety, and successful implementation (gate access, resource requests, entry item, etc). Contribute to on-playa data collection and documentation of projects and collaborations. Facilitate on-ground community engagement, such as guided tours and/or workshops.
Reporting & Communications (15%) Translate technical data and project outcomes into clear, engaging narratives for internal, public, and donor communications. Create visually compelling presentations and reports. Support data collection processes for annual impact measurements and reporting. Contribute to the development and execution of communication plans and strategy
Other Functions (5%) Perform other duties as assigned.
LEARNING AND TEACHING
Documentation - Drives the creation, publishing, and maintenance of process documentation related to assigned duties. Teaching – Takes a leadership role in the acculturation and training of staff. Teaches live or e-learning classes, as requested. Promotes a culture of teaching and learning throughout the community. Mentoring - Mentors subordinates in acquiring the knowledge, skills, and experience that will allow them to advance in the organization. Aids, encourages and inspires their team. Training development - Collaborates with the education team to develop training materials in their area of expertise, as requested. Learning – Pursues ongoing learning in their area of expertise, working to stay current on emergent knowledge, skills, and processes. Participates in conferences, forums, and networking events, where appropriate. Speaking – Represents Burning Man as a subject matter expert and culture-bearer, as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS
3+ years of experience in project management, sustainability, or event production. Exceptional presentation creation skills and high proficiency in Google Slides/Sheets. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Comfort working with data sets for tracking and impact reporting. Experience authoring reports, briefs, or communications for internal and external stakeholders. Familiarity with Burning Man Project’s culture, principles, and sustainability goals.

COMPENSATION:
Individual compensation decisions are dependent on a variety of factors, including prior experience and geographical location. The anticipated salary range for this position is $98,000 - $110,000 in San Francisco, CA or $67,000 - $75,000 in Reno, NV.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
Off-playa: Work is primarily sedentary in nature; no special demands are required. On-playa: Work is primarily sedentary but will also include the need to find and meet with department representatives who may not be in the vicinity therefore, this could include walking or using some form of transportation. Some of the work will be in outside weather conditions and exposed to fumes or airborne particles, as well as possible extremes in temperature.
