High School Latin Teacher
A full-time, competitively paid teaching position at a first-rate college preparatory school for boys.
Boys’ Latin of Philadelphia seeks a High School Latin Teacher charged with developing within students a strong foundation in Latin and a passion for the study of this classic language. The teacher will stress rigor through text selection, cross-curricular connections, and well-designed assignments that challenge students to think critically and creatively. This teacher will provide students with instruction that focuses on the Latin language as well as its related cultures and modern uses. The teacher will thrive in an environment which balances the rigorous pursuit of Latin studies and enrichment with the necessary focus on the remediation and development of learners. The teacher will promote and nurture the education of students by planning and tailoring courses of study; monitoring, assisting with, and correcting academic efforts; and providing a safe environment conducive to learning and character development.
The teacher will perform the following duties:
Plan, develop, and deliver a college preparatory curriculum that is aligned with PA Common Core standards and best practices.
Assess students regularly and use data to drive instruction as well as to provide remediation and enrichment based on individual student need and ability.
Communicate students’ progress toward realizing academic goals, partnering with parents and school personnel to provide instructional and emotional support and resources.
Build a classroom environment that is welcoming, academic, joyful, and safe.
Commit to the school’s extended day structure, serving students outside of the regular school day, and teaching in the Saturday School and summer academy programs.
Sponsor extracurricular activities as part of the school’s award-winning Leadership Academy.
Enforce the Student Code of Conduct and serve as a culture keeper of the Boys’ Latin mission.
The teacher will demonstrate the following competencies:
Unwavering commitment to the school’s mission of preparing boys for success in college and beyond.
Desire to continuously learn and increase effectiveness as a teacher and professional to drive results among students.
Willingness to be flexible and go above and beyond to meet the needs of all students.
Ability to cultivate strong relationships with all members of the school community, including students, parents, faculty and staff members, administrators, and external partners.
Be a subject area expert, strategic problem-solver, and dedicated team player.
Bachelor’s degree and PA state certification.
