POSITION: Lead REPORTS TO: Location Supervisor/Manager JOB TYPE: Full-Time JOB SUMMARY: The Lead position helps oversee daily operations within the railyard, coordinating team efforts to maintain railcar integrity, safety, and adherence to timelines. Responsibilities include: Perform repairs and maintenance to all types of railcars Help manage workflow and assign tasks to team members as needed Ensuring team compliance with safety and operational standards Participate in all team meetings Monitoring progress and providing guidance to team members Communicating with supervisors and team members regarding goals and obstacles ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Help oversee the day-to-day activities of the railcar maintenance team Train new team members and provide ongoing coaching Perform quality checks to ensure work meets AAR and company standards Conduct safety checks and participate in safety meetings Maintain accurate records and documentation of daily operations Coordinate with supervisors to optimize efficiency and resource allocation Assist in special projects as assigned Qualifications Job Qualifications Must meet all physical requirements and be able to follow directions. High school diploma or equivalent required. Prior experience in railcar inspection, maintenance, or a related field preferred. Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently. Basic analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to solve problems. Ability to read, write, and communicate in English fluently and professionally. Valid driver’s license required. Physical Requirements Must be on feet 66%-100% of the time Frequent need to perform physical activities such as bending, stooping, climbing, and lifting up to 75 lbs. Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions for extended periods of time. Vision Requirements Constantly observe areas that need attention/correction. Ability to differentiate common railroad signaling colors (red, green, yellow, and blue). Hearing Requirements Essential. Must be able to hear things clearly and receive verbal instructions. Speaking Requirements Constant need to verbally communicate with staff, partners, and vendors. Lifting/Carrying 25-75 lbs. occasionally (1%-50% of the time) Assistance available for lifting over 50 lbs. Work Hours 40 hours per week, with weekend or overtime work as needed Education and Experience High school diploma required Minimum 3 years of experience in railcar maintenance and leadership Skills Strong leadership and communication skills Ability to troubleshoot and make decisions Work Environment Primarily outdoors (66%-100% of the time) Exposure to loud noises, dust, and weather elements Harbor Rail Services is an equal opportunity employer.
