Description Position Summary This position works as a General Supervisor for Deputy, Deputy II, and/or Principal Court Clerks. Pay Grade: 46 Salary Commensurate with Education and Experience Minimum Qualifications Six (6) years of experience performing clerical, statistical, or court-related duties and utilizing an electronic case management system of which two (2) years are in a lead or supervisory capacity; AND High school diploma or possess a GED; OR Two (2) years of lead experience performing clerical, statistical, or court-related duties and utilizing an electronic case management system; and a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, public or business administration, or related field. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED. Duties and Responsibilities Serves as a clerk and manages the courtroom. Performs complex clerical functions, data analysis and statistical reporting. Reviews legal documents submitted to the court for adherence to Local Rules and to ensure proper form. Provides information to the public and answers questions regarding assigned courts and departmental policies and procedures. Communicates with judges, attorneys, management and other government agencies. Performs essential clerical duties and/or assists court clerks in performing duties. Plans and organized employee training. Provides input for performance evaluations. Works extensively with assigned judge daily to ensure that court calendars and blotters accurately reflect the day's business including, but not limited to, continues, dismissals, final dispositions, and hearings. Provides information and analyzes records for court personnel, attorneys and others. Maintains daily activity reports and performs quality assurance review of docket entries. Maintains and records case depositions and court orders. Performs other related duties as required or directed. KSAs Knowledge of courtroom procedures. Knowledge of various legal instruments issued by the Courts. Ability to lead and direct the activities of assigned personnel. Ability to display good organizational and communication skills. Ability to maintain an established system of records and files. Ability to deal with the attorneys, the public and co-workers with courtesy and tact. Ability to analyze and solve problems and exercise good judgment. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with integrity. Ability to express ideas clearly, concisely and effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to write legibly on legal documents and court files. Special Requirements May be required to work in our 24 Hours Department. Disclaimer This position is subject to a background check for any convictions that have a substantial relationship to potential job duties. Only convictions that are substantially related to potential job duties will be considered and will not automatically disqualify the candidate. Shelby County Resident Disclaimer All employees hired after September 1, 1986, must be residents of Shelby County and shall continue to reside in the County as a condition of their employment. The residency requirement shall not apply to certain public safety/civil service employees. This means exemption from this policy is in effect for the following departments and positions: (1) Sheriff Deputy Patrol Officers, Deputy Jailers and Dispatchers, employed by the Sheriff Department, (2) Correction Officers employed by the Division of Corrections, (3) Firefighters, Paramedics and Dispatchers employed by the Shelby County Fire Department. The residency exemption for public safety/civil service employees does not include Appointed positions with Sheriff’s Office, Division of Corrections or the Fire Department.
