Description

POSITION MISSION: The Performance Engineer is responsible for supporting applications from a performance perspective by providing diagnostic information on production (and test) performance results. Works with all IT teams to ensure that performance best practices and processes are followed. The candidate will create, maintain, execute, and report on performance testing plans using available toolsets and skills. Responsibilities includes covering analytical and optimization work throughout all layers of multi-tier systems. JOB FUNCTIONS: Design, implement, execute, and analyze performance, load, and stress tests for services, applications, and infrastructure. Ability to independently lead a project including planning, execution, coordination, and reporting; makes performance recommendations to eliminate bottlenecks. Conduct performance tests, analyze and present key results/metrics to assess KWI’s platform scalability and stability. Identify load testing scenarios and profiles. Responsible for deep dive analysis with strategy to improve performance of our products. Drive product optimization initiatives and have direct impact on product development. Develop automated monitoring routines / processes in order to enable early detection of potential performance degradation within test and production environments. Utilize diagnostic and monitoring tools to measure, detect, isolate and resolve performance issues found during application development performance testing including measuring, monitoring and capturing required infrastructure & application performance metrics, logs and reports. Root cause analysis, heapdump, core dump, thread dump and other log analysis, code profiling, packet tracing, event tracing, resource analysis. Proven ability through work experience to not only measure and report but analyze the observations to help the teams quickly root cause the issue. Candidate needs to be familiar with Java and DB performance bottlenecks and how to identify them based on the observed data. Ensure that any applications deployed will properly scale and meet expected SLAs for Performance, Availability, Scalability and Stability. Work closely with other engineers within your group and across the product and engineering organization to identify problems and build effective technical solutions. Analyze performance test result and identify bottlenecks of web & server-side applications. Heap utilization and garbage collection statistics to determine if memory leaks are occurring. Database Connection pools to identify if they are too small to handle the load that is placed on them. Thread pools to determine if they are too small to handle the load. Ability to analyze and optimize database and query performance. Write code and queries as necessary to instrument and test applications. Web Services – identify most used web services and performance problems, including determining whether it is a code or underlying resource problem. Coordinate and facilitate the deployment of applications into the prod-like environment Analyze complex problems/issues arising as a result of test failures, identify bottlenecks, work with development to resolve issues. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Skills, Knowledge, Abilities: Highly motivated, with a proven ability and ownership to work as a Performance Tester. Excellent interpersonal skills, including oral/written communication & influencing skills. Excellent analytical, diagnostic and creative problem-solving skills. Expert in root cause Analysis of performance defects. Must be well organized and efficient with excellent judgment and decision-making skills Self-starter attitude with an ability to thrive in a dynamic work environment. Strong experience with JMeter, UNIX commands and scripting to gather system KPIs, DB performance monitoring using native tools. Demonstrated ability to identify performance critical business flows for enterprise web apps and to identify the right load models, etc., to accurately measure performance, scalability and reliability. Good networking architecture expertise. Training/Education: College degree (computer science or business preferred) or equivalent experience. Relevant industry certifications are a plus. Experience: 5+ years’ experience in Performance Engineering. 3+ years’ experience in performance profiling and optimization. Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Performance tuning SQL and configurations (Oracle, MySQL, MongoDB). Experience with JMeter, Load Runner, Grinder or comparable performance testing tools is a must. Working knowledge of Profiling tools (i.e. JProfiler). Excellent coding skills in one or more languages: Java, C#, C++, Python or Ruby. Experience in API testing, XML, Web Services, REST API.
