Community Healthcaring KW (the Health Centre) provides a broad range of services aimed at improving the health of individuals and the wider community. Our services include medical and dental care, health promotion, illness prevention and outreach programming. Our expertise and resources are focused on working with those who experience health inequities and barriers to accessing health services. Collaborating as an interdisciplinary team, we provide services and supports that address the social determinants of health including factors and barriers such as poverty, inadequate housing, food insecurity, substance use, language and culture, as well as stigma and social exclusion.
Community Healthcaring KW works with the most complex client population served by primary health care professionals within Waterloo Region. Our highly skilled and diverse team works from a strength-based approach with individual clients as well as the broader community. We collaborate with many partner agencies and organizations within Waterloo Region. Our team consists of Family Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, Social Workers, Dietitians, Chiropodists, Pharmacists, Psychiatrists, Health Promoters, Community Health Workers, Administrative Staff and Volunteers.

The Health Centre is currently recruiting for the following position:
Job Title: Midwife (0.8 FTE) – Prenatal & Postpartum Care
Compensation: $61.88 per hour
Position Type: Fixed Term Contract &Part-Time (0.8 Full-Time Equivalent) – 30 hours per week – until March 31st, 2027
Job Summary:
The Midwife in this 0.8 FTE ( 30 hours per week) position will provide equitable, community-based sexual and reproductive health care with a focus on prenatal and postpartum services through the mobile maternity clinic. The role primarily serves uninsured, refugee, and precariously housed clients who often face complex medical, social, and cultural barriers to accessing care.
The Midwife will work collaboratively with CHCKW, CFFM, and WCHC teams, as well as local hospitals and community partners, to deliver safe, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed care across the perinatal and reproductive health spectrum.
Responsibilities:
Provide comprehensive midwifery care including assessment, diagnosis, prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, and newborn care in accordance with the Midwifery Act and the College of Midwives of Ontario (CMO) standards.
Deliver sexual and reproductive health services such as contraceptive counselling, PAP testing, STI screening, and pregnancy options counselling.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (e.g., nurse practitioners, physicians, counsellors, settlement workers) to ensure wraparound client care.
Work from a trauma-informed, harm reduction, and social determinants of health perspective to improve health outcomes and reduce inequities.
Support refugee and uninsured clients in navigating health systems, including referrals to hospitals and community resources.
Participate in the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of health promotion and perinatal programs.
Complete accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with CMO standards and organizational policies (CHCKW/CFFM/WCHC).
Travel within the region to provide home visits, clinics, and outreach services as required.
Work during regular and extended hours, including up to one evening/weekend per month.
Adhere to organizational policies regarding confidentiality, documentation, and quality improvement.
Practice in a manner consistent with the organizations’ commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
Work in a manner that ensures client safety and minimizes risk to clients, volunteers and the Centre.
Work in a manner that demonstrates self-reflection and personal accountability for work performance.
Adhere to all Health Centre policies.
Adhere to appropriate infection control practices including those related to Covid -19.
Maintain status of fully vaccinated.
Perform any other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
Qualifications:
Completion of a recognized Midwifery Education Program.
Minimum 5 years of experience as a Registered Midwife.
Registration in good standing with the College of Midwives of Ontario (General class) and membership with the Association of Ontario Midwives.
Privileges at Waterloo Regional Health Network (WRHN) preferred.
Experience with breastfeeding education and hands-on lactation support.
Proficiency with EMRs (e.g., PS Suite or similar systems).
Strong charting, communication, and cultural safety skills.
Demonstrated knowledge of trauma-informed care, reproductive justice, and the impact of systemic barriers on client health outcomes.
Experience working with marginalized populations, including refugees, uninsured individuals, and racialized communities.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment.
Ability to obtain a Police Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to CHCKW.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and act with discretion.
Recent experience working in a community setting and outreach preferred.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbally.
Experience with electronic health records and other databases is an asset.
Formally trained in and practice de-escalation techniques or willing to engage in training.
Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and adequate insurance for work-related travel (per CHCKW policy).
2-Factor Authentication for Outlook is App based (Microsoft Authenticator Application) and used to ensure the security of our online accounts. 2-FA requires the use of a personal mobile device with a recent operating system.
