Description This position plays a critical role in leading Church efforts to care for the poor and needy and minister to the temporal needs of others. The role provides cash, commodities, or in-kind assistance directly or through partners to those in need of basics such as food, water, shelter, clothing, medicine, and medical/psychosocial treatment, protection and information services, child-friendly spaces, and child education all throughout the world. Customers benefitting from the incumbent's work include presiding Church officers, area presidencies, directors of temporal affairs, academic institutional leaders, and governmental leaders and citizens of recipient countries and domestic/global charitable organizations. Responsibilities Oversee team of high-level initiative managers and humanitarian industry experts in setting and achieving departmental strategic objectives. Integrates and coordinates humanitarian service issues, emergency response issues, activities and develops/manages budgets. Works with the Presiding Bishopric, Latter-day Saint Charities Board of Trustees, General Welfare and Welfare Executive Committees and the Appropriations Committee. The employee regularly manages the work of other employees (may include mixed workforce). The employee is authorized in partnership with HR to hire or fire employees and recommends advancement, promotion or any other change of status of employees within their reporting line. Assure that global Church humanitarian efforts are aligned with the principles and guidelines provided by Presiding Councils. Increase the impact of Church humanitarian efforts by strengthening evaluation efforts and assuring that work performed achieves strategic objectives and frameworks. Provides leadership to several domestic and international teams or work groups through managers and supervisors. This role manages other people managers. Qualifications Required: Masters degree and 12 years of applicable experience, or equivalent education and experience. Demonstrated ability to lead critical and highly visible work to achieve greater results. Proven track record of leading experienced professionals and managers to develop and achieve organizational objectives. Experience leading highly critical and visible global Church priorities. Possess a strong understanding of the principles and objectives of the Welfare and Self-Reliance Department and the ability to apply them in addressing and resolving complicated humanitarian challenges. Have extensive Church leadership and administration experience; understanding of the impact of international and domestic cultures and working closely with Church Areas to implement solutions.
